hey i work for an oil company im currently doing maintenance on pumps, tearing down old stations, building new stations ect, my boss wants me to get my cdl in case i have to run a vac truck, deliver fuel or do retail in the winter, ect ect. im currently using this websites practice test and was wondering if this website is good when it comes to that like are the questions similar to the actual test or no? , i have already gotten my back ground check for my hazmat done so now all i need to do now is goto the dmv and do the tests, i will be getting trained by a driver at this company and be supplied a truck when i have to take the road test, and no i will not be going to school. just was wondering if im good with just studying on here or do i have to crack the book open? or anyone know any other websites? im much more into doing the tests then reading a book i retain alot more information from the practice tests vs reading pages of a book.
You have to accept that whatever the State Revenuer (DMV) gives to you for the test taking is what your official test will be. I can sit and talk airbrakes until cows come home. But faced against a state test that requires manual book learning by rote worded answers exactly as stated in manual is difficult for me. So I usually pass with a average grade. it's not my forte taking tests overall. You cannot have the exact test and just memorize all 66 answers like the old days. However I feel TTR does a good job for practicing. What is it that they say, if you bleed in training while drowning in the rain, actual battle wont hurt much.
I just took my CDL learner's permit exams (General Knowledge, Combination, Air Brakes and also Tanker and Double/Triples) about a week ago in Florida. I used this site's practice exams as one of the components while getting ready. I also used practice exams I found on another site (just did a google search). I found the questions asked on the practice exams here, at the same basic complexity level and knowledge base as the questions I actually encountered. So, they were helpful practice exams in my opinion and gave a good 'feel' for the test I took at my DMV. I had also downloaded and printed out the CDL Manual from Florida and used the information in THAT manual as my main source. I found a couple of the practice exams to have slightly different answers than the FL CDL manual. An example being, on a practice exam it asked the air pressure to trigger the low pressure alarm. The Florida CDL manual was exact at 60psi for the answer, while one of the practice exams didn't use that specific value, but gave a range of values instead. I think 45 to 85 psi was the answer the practice exam gave. There were a couple of such minor differences. You didn't say what state you are in. But, I would completely advise study the CDL Manual from the State you will be taking the test from and ALWAYS use the information from your state's CDL manual as the gospel of knowledge that is 'correct', even if it isn't.
Log into the DMV or DOT website of whatever state you are in. You should be able to download the entire CDL booklet for that state, including hazmat. You will find when you take your test the questions will be worded almost precisely like the book.
I passed on everything my first try including doubles triples and tanker. I used the CDL prep app (red steering wheel) and took practice tests over and over until I couldn’t stand it anymore. I’m not waiting on background checks for my hazmats.
