Hi, My first choice out of school will be Maverick, Glass division. I am wondering how exactly is glass handled, Are special a frames used all the time, is some glass hauled on flatbeds, step decks, Conestoga?. Consequently, do you carry not only securement for glass but chains, straps for lumber, steel, etc. Also, after I get some solo miles(earn some trust) how many miles could I average in a week. I am aware that I will have lower miles when I first start, (duh). I'm curious as to how often I would cross to Canada, go to N.Y.City. Not worried about Canada or N.Y. really, looking forward to it, kinda, sorta. I am also curious as to how much loads of glass weigh compared to other loads, how many plates a trailer Carry's, how challenging securment is etc. One of the aspects I am looking forward to is the challenge of hauling something fragile like glass, will I need to drive slower speeds? avoid some roads because of bumps? I am also wondering how often I would get west, I traveled west in the early 80s and have always wanted to again. I am sure I will have more ? but thats it for now. Thanks in Advance Brian
They load multi pieces per side, strap them down and tarp. This is on a Double Drop trl. Some glass is load on steps or flats.
I wonder if this account will be going I was hearing that the account for hauling glass doesn't look promising as far as them keeping those account's active. What will happen to all the driver's that haul glass if maverick does lose these account's? I haven't seen much posting about anyone hauling glass for some reason.
I used an luminum set of glass racks. The fit into the side pckets of trailer. Yes, you need straps and tarps and lumber and chains. Some was crated, some was in a sort of "frame". Another item you WILL need is a good broom. The glass WILL break "normally". (it's expected) Glass loads paid over $3 in 1987.
No, what was insane was PRIME thinking their drivers wouldn't find out the loads paid $2.98 a mile instead of $1.49 That one almost caused the owner of the company to cancel the contract.
