I'm a recent CDL graduate from shippers choice what are some good question I should asked during orientation and with my trainer that a newbie should ask like act of god situation ( drive on a road and it sink in will I get fired) stuff a new driver might not think to ask.
You won't have something that fuzzy go wrong like a street caving in but if it did they would look at that to see if they could blame you for it. You will not get any slack. Seriously, most new drivers hit something, taking out a post at the pump, catching a 4 wheeler by swinging wide and fast on a turn... backing into something. It's the common stuff that's going to get you. Those add up (points) and are going to cost you.
Always remember, the only stupid question is the one that wasn't asked. Never be afraid to ask your trainer if you want to know something. There will be hundreds of questions that you'll have. Don't worry, they'll come to you.
Well we can't help you with specifics! Do this in this situation, You should be able to think of what you are going to do in certain situations, If this happens then do this, if this happens then do this, But DO NOT DO THIS OR YOUR RESULTS WILL BE CATASTROPHIC! You will need to figure those things out before you get to the situation, Every situation can not be covered just know what to do in a rage of things when certain things happen, It is kind of a flow chart if this then go to this if not that then flow this way, I know I am rambling! But the Trainer is not going to be able to tell you what to do in every single situation. These 4 wheelers lay awake thinking of ways to get in front of us. Thank You.
Ask if you can meet your dispatcher in person? What happens if I am dispatched to an area with no truckstops in the fuel network? What if the pumps are down in my fuel solution for the load and I am almost empty? Is there someone to contact after hours if I have a breakdown or blow a tire? What is the weekly cash advance? How often can I get the truck washed and will you pay for it? Will dispatch send send me a message when I need a PM done or do I need to keep track of the miles? If the only truckstop available is paid parking will the company pay for the parking? How do I get reimbursed for scale tickets? If I need a massage will you guys pay for it? Will I be issued extra bulbs and fuses per DOT requirement to carry in the truck? What is the procedure to get extra antifreeze, oil and windshield washer fluid? If the truck A/C breaks and the APU chooses not to work will you pay for idle air until the truck is in the shop? When the truck is in the shop will the company pay for the hotel room?
Thanks I really appreciate the response just help I knowing what to ask I read a lot of forum on here and I have a great idea what I'm in for just need a lot advice on what to ask and check in
