Looking for advice on how to save my driving career.

Got my CDL 5 years ago. Worked almost a year each for a couple big OTR companies, no problems. Then took a local job. Three months in, dropped a trailer and was fired. Moved to a different company (XPO) and worked there two years. The second year I tore a ligament in my knee getting out of the truck, and missed six months of work. At the end two years (this past December), I left that company to take a couple months off, intending to go back to OTR after a break.

But now I find that the last company has put on my DAC report a couple more accidents and a "would not rehire." I'm guessing one of the accidents was a trailer scrape I reported, and the other was me tearing my ligament, and that's the reason for the "do not rehire." My manager and dispatcher I know loved me, but I'm guessing corporate HR did not like the months of workman's comp.

In any event, I've now been told by three different companies that they cannot hire me based on my DAC, and I am trying to figure out how to rebuild my reputation. I have no tickets or violations, but I have two consecutive companies reporting me as "would not rehire" and an "accident resulting in injury" on my record.

A friend has suggested getting a job driving a box truck for a year before reapplying for Class A jobs. Would that help "rehabilitate" me? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for any help.

@Chinatown can help, but he needs to know where you live to provide the best possibilities for employment.

Dac is considered the same as a credit reporting agency and has to follow the same rules. If the DAC is not accurate, you can protest the incidents and they will have to investigate them. If they are accurate, you can write a rebuttal and/or an explanation of theses things and they will put it your file where they will be there for future prospective employers to see.

You need to apply to companies that give drivers another chance.
Submit the apps before calling though. Easy to say "NO" on a phone call. Get the app in the trucking company system, then call and say, "I'm checking on my job application."

LOL, I had already been eyeing this company. What makes them a good idea in your eyes? Teamsters?

Produce haulers usually have opening because not all truck drivers can hack it. I've done it because I can hack it...lol did it for years.
Union pension comes in handy someday and especially helpful if all a person has is Social Security income.
