Just got my CDL. Looking to be a company driver to gain experience/training, and try out different fields of trucking before going owner-op. The thing is because of other responsibilities, I will move 2 times in the next 12 months or so.

Is job hopping truly frowned upon? Say 2-3 months at an employer. Will national companies be willing to transfer me to another region?

If you're OTR why would you need to change companies? You may not have to change companies because you move.
As far as different types of trucking, for one a company like Swift has van, reefer and flatbed. There are others that have options too.

If you stay with the same company, you can move as often as you want as long as it's within the hiring area.

You can also work for a temp. agency. Can change companies as often as you want, but your work history will only show the temp. agency because that's where your paychecks come from.

May not go OTR. I have found local companies in all areas I will be located. They hire with no experience. Get more home time and pay seems similar or better than OTR for a fresh graduate. But your point is taken, and that is what I was curious about (if I went regional with a carrier would they let me switch regions).

You can job hop as many times as you want. The best companies won't hire job hoppers. So by job hopping you limit your possibilities to the medium and lower quality companies.

Oil patch and industrial haulage outfits pay good money and don’t give a ####. Depending on what you consider a good job. You want to make money that’s the place, but you’re going to get dirty. They’ll throw keys at whoever is standing there if they’re qualified, even if it is their 3rd job that day. Mind you sober wasn’t necessarily a requirement in the patch either, so work from there. Halliburton and the other mega-corp types all have the safety bs and more rules than NASA, but at some of those smaller contractors and bush road outfits it’s still 1975.

Imo relocating is a pretty valid reason to quit a job.
