Hello,
I am leasing on to a carrier and they handle my IFTA miles, payments and calculations through their IFTA account.
I am setting up my own authority in TX.
Is it possible to run under their authority, and apply for my own IFTA account using their MC, DOT, cargo and liability insurance for the 90 days while I'm waiting for my IFTA account to clear?
And after it does clear, can I transfer it to my new authority once I get my IRP account and insurance in place?
I'm looking for the most seamless transition possible.
Setting up a new Authority: waiting on IFTA account

HUH???
If you are leasing on, they should send you a temp packet.
In that packet will be all you need to run, and you will not setup your own IFTA account.God prefers Diesels Thanks this. -

It has to be done in a certain order, and it won't even start until you have active insurance on your own rig. -
If the lease is for a period of 30 days or more, the parties may stipulate which party (the lessor or the lessee) will report and pay the fuel tax. If the lease is for a period of less than 30 days, the lessor will report and pay the fuel tax unless the lease contract designates the lessee as the responsible party and the lessor has a copy of the lessee's valid IFTA license.

But what I've been told, perhaps incorrectly, that IFTA is federal, and DOT/MC is State, and there is nothing legally obligating an owner op to use the carriers IFTA account they are leased on to.austinmike Thanks this. -
