I'm not sure if its called an endorsement but just curious as to what all is involved with Hazmat and tanker. I seen and took the practice test for both, seems pretty simple and I seen where you need to get finger printed. Can someone tell me if I should get it when I get my CDL or do you have to have a CDL for awhile.

It depends on whom and what you will be hauling. They say Tankers make good money do not know from personal experience. I do have the tanker endorsement but never pulled them. But it helps in selling yourself. Hazmat, You can make more than without it, but also comes with it more hassles. You will get DOT more pulling hazmat than not, More rules you have to follow. And cost to maintain is higher. Have to ask your self is the pain of the DMV worth to go every 2 years to retest?

Sounds like the fingerprints "scare you".

sometimes, carrier will just give a HM load to anyone, I know, because they don't give you the placards.

Absolutely get the Haz endorsement. Most carriers that I've considered require it. There's fingerprinting and a background check to make sure you're not a threat to the country, plus $125.

Unless you're a possible threat to the country...

I have been taking the practice test on this site and seems like they are pretty easy after you take a few. Are there just certain questions on the test or is there some that maybe I have not seen.
Also should I try to get a double trailer endorsement ?
Have other people that took the test on here seen the same questions over and over ? Does anyone know how many possible test questions there might be ?

Never hurts to have the endorsements, once you have tankers, it there, but hazmat you will need to go to TSA for back ground, then wait for letter of approval, then go take test at DMV, then retest at DMV every 2 years, and TSA back ground every 5 years, to keep hazmat, Here in Vegas, the TSA cost is $86.50, then $17. at the DMV, I dropped hazmat back in 04' and decided to get it back, got the letter of approval from TSA about a week and a half ago, got the endorsement back now

You need TWIC also to enter seaports, chemical plants, some military bases. You may already have it, but just a reminder in case you don't.
