I think I know the answer to this, but will as anyway.

I need employment now. Should I go get my Class B license and try to find a local delivery job in Texas?

I am not 21 yet. I turn 21 in 6 months. I know that the job availability is VERY slim for people under 21 even with a Class B, but there are a SELECT FEW (mostly small businesses) that will hire.

    Is it worth it?

Also, will I have to completely start over with a driving course to get my Class A or is it just a "refresher"?

    Thanks!

You can get a license now, its called a intra-state CDL, age is 18, you just wont be able to travel outside your state, once you turn 21 you'd be able to travel out side of your state, this would then be a interstate CDL, But why the class B? I'd go for the class A, You can still drive a straight truck, Good luck

I'm a student for class A, but I had class B years ago and made decent money with them. I worked for a local beverage company and they actually trained me and paid for cdl. If you are gonna drive 18 wheeled trucks ever you think, I'd go ahead for a class A. These older" A "drivers will probably help you more.

    Good luck

If you want to transfer over to an A someday, you'll have to have A training, and pay for the extra training. In class B there are many job possibilities and you should be home daily, or some class B jobs, you may do an over nighter at times, if they do that, at that particular employer. Sometimes I think class B work is more readily available, and easier to get in some areas of the country.

You won't be able to take a refresher if you will be getting your class A.Refreshers are for ppl that already have their class A and hasn't drove for months.Since you need a job now why not get a non driving job save money towards your class A,you only have 6 months to wait.

True... I work right now for a company driving a fairly large non cdl truck w/refer. It pays pretty well(hourly) and out of town is not very often but they will put me up in a nice motel when I do have to.

There are good paying class b jobs. If your goal is to get a class b and never upgrade to class a that is OK, then just get the b. But if your goal is to get an a eventually, then get it now, don't wait.

Yes, that too, the class B jobs pay well, some may not believe that, but they do. In fact, I do know of a few retired guys that were class A (still have the A of course) but do part time jobs with B, and love it.
