[h=2]Should I just pay for a refresher or just try Swift orientation in Gary[/h]
Has anyone completed swift orientation is it difficult too pass ? Any suggestions ? If I fail will it affect my carrer ? Should I just do the 10 day refresher at Cr England first for $100 with no commitment and try swift ? Please help Im suppose to start either company very soon . I have no exp but have had CDL since 2008 . Im a quick learner and need to start making cash quickly instead of waiting 2 weeks without pay ???

Possessing the CDL means nothing. The zero experience is everything. You might skip school but you'll have to go with a trainer for 6-8 weeks like everyone else. There's a few short ones out there. Watkins-Shepherd I think will put you by yourself right away.

Five years waiting and all of a sudden in a hurry? Did the straw break the camel's back? GET OUT!!! :biggrin_2559:

One thing you'll learn is truck drivers have extreme patience. If you don't have it you will before it's over with.

If you know the CDL manual a trainer will break you in on the road.

Do you like tall woman? :)

$100 for refresher course ? go for it ! You're going to get put with a trainer anyway, but the refresher is going to life much easier for you......

here is the breakdown for Swift pay with a mentor

on duty not driving minimum wage of your home state
on duty driving, minimum wage plus $1

Not sure where your from but california its $8 and $9, it turns out to getting $450 a week for the first 4 weeks or so and they told me $550 for the final 2 weeks, once you finish with the mentor you must take a test out where they do a road test and a couple backings, if you fail that they offer you a short course for backing...fail again and your gone. If you pass then you go solo status and get your own truck where you will begin at $0.25 a mile, you get raises throughout the year and by the end your making around $0.32 a mile.

If you decide to just go to orientation without experience then you get the mentor for 6 weeks, if you have some experience you do a test and backing and you get 50-100 hours mentor, if experienced you test and if passed you go solo right away. They require 6 months experience to test out though, hope this answers some questions.

as far as pay I hear cr pays a little more but I also hear its not a good company to be with, we had a guy in orientation this week from cr and he said he had to get away from them, take the info as you wish though. If you can take a refresher for $100 for 0 commitment then just verify that and you should be fine.

Can't answer the pay ? But if there is no commitment to work for a period of time for that $100 price (which seems low) then i'd do the refresher and go work for CRE and start with reefers which typically do better on miles and money, b/cuz van can haul dry and perishables.
But i pull reefers and that's only my opinion... worth what you paid for it
