I have inherited a 1998 Peterbilt 379 and a 2005 Reitnouer flatbed. Would I be better off selling them or running them? I have no shortage of friends who would love to drive the truck but financially I wonder if this is something I want to get involved in. The truck has everything it needs all I would need to do is leas it on somewhere. I would appreciate any and all opinions, thanks

if your selling trucks now older trucks are not worth a whole lot at the moment might be good to sit on it a bit

i have a 2000 midroof and flatbed that i parked about a month and a half ago with the low amount of loads and terrible rates i was losing money. it's paid for but the sellers market were in now you'll be lucky to get half of what it's worth i'm just gonna sit on it and see where the economy goes and forget about putting a driver on then you'll pay higher insurance, payroll tax's, workers comp etc.

I'd drive it myselfe if I were you but I wouldn't put someone else in it. there's such little income off one truck after you pay the driver it doesn't make sense to do if your not already in the business

if you care to self finance it I may be interested but no way to get a loan in this financial climate. trucks just arent sellling right now

Khund, I was really glad to see Medicine Man pop in here. He's been through similar decisions and you can learn from his experience. Do yourself a HUGE favor and listen to what he has to say, especially on this topic.

I suggest driving it yourself as well, since its paid for and the trailer is paid for your insurance should be pretty low.

profile says truckers significant other though so this person may not be a truck driver.

I definatly wouldn't put a driver in a truck ith not realy knowing the industry well

I agree with you on that point.
But if it the OP is a truckers significant other, then the significant other must have some experience????

JasonTheRock & MedicineMan, I am the daughter and granddaughter of truck drivers. I have been around the trucking industry my entire life but as for knowing how to drive a semi, well my father cringed every time I asked him to teach me and now he and my grandfather are both gone. It has crossed my mind to see about selling the entire rig to Peterbilt but I am afraid that they will rip me off. At this time I am weighting all of my options and praying that I will come to the best decision for my family. Thank you for all of your advice

The dealer will rip you off! If you can hold on to them till trucking picks up a bit you'll get more out of it.
