Soon I wiil be getting my tag and getting started. I wonder if when I do get started if initially I should try to get inspected right away.

The reason I say this is because almost everything on my truck is new right now. The list is exhaustive but I have new brakes new drums new cams and bushings all new air cans new rear bushings and airbags all new Airlines new exhaust and on and on and on.

I'm sure that if they want to find something wrong they will, but so much of my truck is new right now that now maybe the best time.

Then I would have an inspection under my belt and maybe they would leave me alone for a while and my rating would improve.

Does that make sense or is that a bad move?

Generally you can set it up with the dot to get an inspection. I have done it several times and always got a sticker. I would not generally just ask for one when crossing a scale.

Well I am going to be audited by a Pa puc officer. That may not be the right name for him but he's from the PA puc I believe.

I do not know if that is THE audit or if dot will audit me also. Does anyone know that?

If he were to inspect me, is that the same as a dot inspection? I am assuming he is a dot officer?

I would just drive. The computer records will show you're new.
You will get inspected soon enough.
    Good luck.

You can go into a scale and request an inspection. Some will and some won't do one on request. Just make sure EVERYTHING is in order before you go in. Getting an out of service on your record while having new authority is not a good thing. Go in for your annual inspection on the truck and trailer before attempting to get one from a scale house. Most places that work on trucks also offer the annual inspections. I got mine done at a Speedco.

The DOT auditor will not do an inspection of your equipment. He just wants to see all of your records and paperwork.

I wouldn't run without that sticker, do they still have those, on the door? Used to be, you could buy those stickers at a truckstop, along with blank health cards . I'm sure they did away with that by now. I wouldn't volunteer going into a scale for ANY reason.

Annual inspection sticker and forms are for sale in some truckstops.

You can ask at a scale for all the inspections that you want, but they will not change your safety rating. An audit is the only thing that will change that.

I would think walking into the scale and asking for an inspection with the thought being that everything is in order almost makes them look even harder and maybe even has them come up with some petty violation because you made them work. I wouldn't stick my hand into a bees nest for some honey, and I'm not walking into a scale to ask for an inspection.

Just drive, you'll get inspected soon enough. There is no way I would volunteer for a DOT inspection.
