For you that have smart phones, Droid or Iphone- lots of weather apps out there on the market. If you use any of them, what do you use and why? This thread was actually started around a table at our main terminal when we were comparing phones and all these wonderful apps that fill 'em up. Led me to look at all the apps available on the Droid App market and was pretty amazed how many there actually were for following weather. I have three on my Razor. My Cast premium and two radar only apps-Radar Alive Pro and PYKL3. I have been using My Cast I think forever- well since it was available on my first flip phone. It was pretty basic but it was the best for radar and all the other stuff one would expect from a decent app. Last few years, after Garmin bought the company-it only got better. I think for on-demand weather, it's one of the top, if not thee top, apps on the market. Only downside is the $9.95 yearly subscription for hazardous weather which, is definitely worth it, especially during the winter months. It is also very accurate in location placing, using both the tower location and built in GPS services to localize for local conditions. forecasts, and alerts( this includes watches, warnings and statements and are user controlled- you decide what if any). With the Razor, one gets HD radar animation, and both visible and infrared satellite imagery. This is all superimposed over the existing Google maps service each, if you have this, you know there is also "satellite" imagery of your location. Of course one can also zoom in or out. I am not a company rep for anyone so these are my unsolicited opinions on this app. I am interested in what others are using if you're using them and why. As I mentioned, lots of choices. And, the best app, is the one that you who are using it, are comfortable with. But this much I think is true. If you have a smart phone and you're a driver, having a good weather app is almost imho a necessity. Oh, and the other two I regularly use were recommended to me by a couple of those looney storm chasers. They offer a lot of different things, most of which I can only guess at. But they are pretty neat. 73
There are a couple good NOAA based apps on the Google market. Not sure of the names at the moment- do a search and you'll find 'em. I have a NOAA app but it's more of a weather discussion and forecast model app for long range forecasts and regional discussions. It's the NOAA Now app if you're interested. 73
I don't have an Iphone so which app is that? Does it work for you ok? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
Raindar is a good free app. It will show storm cells. It uses NEXRAD and TDWR. It will show extreme weather before any warnings. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Radar Alive Pro, in my opinion is one of the best apps. For weather forecasts I just use the radio or TV.
I have used Weather Underground since I started living in hurricane country seven years ago. They have a mobile app that is really easy to use on my Android phone. www.wunderground.com Frank
I'd have to agree with that. Only issue I had with them is that their app is a relatively new thing. Used to be one had to go to their mobile site which was a little hard to use because of the small scale. I have played with app a bit but, keep going back to MyCast.
