OK, I live here in NJ right near Port Newark, Kearny, Elizabeth, Rahway and other fun trucking locales. Which trucking school should I choose. Im a fast learner and can self study for the writen test. One school, Winsor, says that they have a simulator, which makes them different. Well, which school should a choose or should I go with another school. By the way, after reading all of the negitive stuff on company sponsored schools, I want to have some control over what I learn and not get into some crazy contract that makes me owe that company for what could seem for life.

Try to find a school that is PTDI certified. Try your local community college. Smith and Solomon is a rip off. They just get you through real quick and if you do pass the test you will not have enough experience to go to a decent company. Just my opinion but I'd try to get the best bang for my buck.

    david07003 Thanks this.

As new commer to truck driving, I am quite unfumular with my terms and abbrations in this field. In the quote you reffered to PTDI certification.
    Could you please clarify?
Also, if reference refers to a organiztion with a web site, please include this organizations web site URL for me and others who may be new to TD.
    Thanks

Its national certification that supposibly the better schools have. But I find that only a few schools have it.

I have to agree with WW about Smith & Solomon. I graduated from there over a year ago and basically learned just enough to pass the test.
It surprised me that we never learned how to hook onto a trailer or anything like that.
I went back recently for a refreasher and it was even worse then when i originally went. No order. The instructors were busy ############ rather then actually instructing.
I can't comment on any other schools but S&S is a joke as far as i'm concerned.
