so can i refuse a load after i alredy say i would take

so this is the sifuation i just bought a truck and flat bed trailer from a guy se are wirking this deal he gets ms the loads i work u der his authority while i pay him a balance on the truck. he gets 10% of the llad but refuses to show me what the broker is really paying now he tells me i have to move 40.000 pounds of stone from pa to nc about 600 milss at $ 1.15 mile he tells me he alredy accepted the load and cannot turn it down is that true?
the problem is this i only get half of the money through an advance the rest goes directly to him so figure less fhan 60 cents a pound is it possible to have him cancel that load

 

This is just my 2 cents, I am sure he could back out of it, but it would cost him perhaps his reputation with the broker. And if the broker is a real good one, he would be screwing himself by making a promise that he didn't keep. But as far as I know, yes it still could be refused, why not? Maybe there would be a surcharge of somekind, I don't really know. But two things. first maybe just do the load, call it a learning experience. Second, make it a firm commitment from him that he always asks you first before he commits to anything. A real good idea. And lastly, $1.15 a mile doesn't sound right at all, the brokers usually charge 10%, its a given. I won't say nothing bad, but I hope your guy is honest with you, thats all I can really say.

 

But if I am understanding what you wrote, you get half of $1.15 per mile, or about .64 cents, and that covers your truck and trl pymts but not your fuel and what ever charges you may have???? is that right?

 

He could probably refuse the load but it could cause problems with him and the broker. It could cause him to lose good loads in the future. If you are buying a truck from him and running under his authority and have an agreement worked out he should show you how much the load is paying or it make me think he is getting more than he states.

 

Sounds like he is double brokering the load. I would have a sit down talk with him and tell him you want to see first hand what the loads are paying before you take them. But sounds like also he has the upper hand cause your making payments and he will repo the truck if you keep refusing the loads. YOU are in BAD situation. And I also agree with "truckbuddha" on his post.

 

Truth in leasing regulations say he MuST show you any rate confirmation on request.. And you may have a verbal agreement on everything, technically, since its not your authority, you are leased to him. $1.15 from PA to NC sounds like dry van rates...

 

You need to re-think what you are getting yourself into. A deal like you are talking about is a recipe for disaster. Good luck.

 

You have your agreement in writeing? $1.15 sounds a little low to me. 1.15x600=690,, half that to you 345, Say 6 mpg ( heavy load) 100 gal of fuel so about say 3.70 (what we paid yesterday) $370.00 in fuel. You lost money. But thats an ugly fast figure on my part.

Now if he gets 1/2 after costs thats different, , thats a one day drive,maybe another to load/unload and secure. You have more time for more loads for the week. So 690-370 infuel, you split $300.00 not real bad for a days work, unless that is taxes are comming outa your $150.

IDK but I'd sure like to know if thats the actual rate or if he's taken a fee out already, If I was you that is.

Fuel surcharge? Taxes? Etc. Reread your contract IF you have one, get one if you don't.

Going back to original post, It's bad business when you refuse a load once your commited UNLESS, you have a perfectly good reason, for an example, my dog died, I didnt hear my alarm clock, I forgot what i was suppose to go..........lol......Seriously, the broker will put you at the bottom of the list and give you the lower paying loads if you keep refusing.

 

I treat the Agent/Brokers like they treat me.So i do this.If i book a load and one shows up better i cancell the original and take the higher paying load...

No different when they cancel on me and find a cheaper driver to take it...Then they LIE and say customer ''cancelled''..
