You got a CDL , have experience or are a newbie,

    You want a job driving.

Just because you have a Class A CDL don't just look and appy for Class A CDL jobs.

There are many jibs that only require a Class B CDL that pay as well as those needing a Class B.

A friend who has a Class A drives 2 axle truck for a beer company in Las Vegas and gets paid $25/hr the same as the companies Class A drivers.

Beer companies,, soda distributors, food distributor etc have local jobs that pay very well,, a professional driver should not care as long as the money is good.

Don't be just a steering wheel holder working for a company that only wants miles and could care less if you get home or spend your nights parked in a noisy over crowded trashy truckstop.

Maybe that's there that the beer/soda drivers get paid that much. That certainly isn't every where, now is it? If a person obtained a class A CDL, then that is the job they want. After x number of years, when many of us have had it, we want to settle down to easier jobs, THEN maybe a class B job fits us. But for the ones that "had a dream" of becoming a truck driver, then let them go, fly the coop, and get their wings clipped, as the flew by the coops!

We all need to remember that truck driving isn't a "one size fits all " occupation . I'm OTR and have been for awhile but I cannot imagine running as a local delivery driver or on a dedicated account . I would be bat #### bored to tears in a week . However , I also cannot imagine running OTR like I am with a family at home wondering when I would get back .

BTW , one of these times when someone uses the entirely stupid and intentionally demeaning term "steering wheel holder " I will jump on with both feet expressing my opinion of what an idiot someone is who thinks any ttruck driver is not a steering wheel holder . Plan on it being filled with these : ###. I consider it the height of arrogance as in , " I'm better than you .". Sorry your Mama forgot to teach you but you're not.

For someone like me, that's dilemma I have. I too get crazy and bored on dedicated accounts. I also have a family at home whom I love and care about, so while I love the road, I hate to be away from them. It's a catch 22 when you have two loves, your family AND the road.

There's good and bad in all. like some have said, trucking is not a one size fits all career choice.

    Um.....
We ( Local drivers ) Still need OTR drivers. Can't put everything on the snail rail or Air. Hub to Hub, Terminal to Terminal, Distribution Center to Distribution Center, Still need folks spending the night inside a tractor at a trashy truck stop to make our job possible.

That is great about driving a truck, So many options, So much too learn, We our own worst enemy, Trying to perused other drivers, it's like 2nd job to most drivers. Grass is never greener lol

I agree. Also look at class b jobs. a good paying job is just that. a good paying job, Suck up some ego and go get a straight truck job. No one cares if you can drive a tractor trailer vs a straight truck. No female cares either lol

Voyager , I think this job is worth postponing or enduring a less than perfect situation especially if there are young children at home . I have very few regrets about the way I've lived my life and the only one that is forever painful is that I wasn't there when my babies were becoming people . I was happily doing what I wanted to do at the time but I have a daughter and son now in their 40s who I literally cannot stand . I don't know if things would have been different if I'd been there but if I had been there I would know .

easier said than done. You make it seem like everyone Can have a $25 hour paying job... Not even the local Conway terminal here starts you off at that much.
