    A spreadsheet.

You're a single truck operation so book keeping is really easy. Just be disciplined enough to do it daily.

Over on dieselboss dot com websight is a spread sheet already made out. Has everything an o/o needs and you can add columns. Don't know the cost these days but it was by the year when I used it.

If you don't have Microsoft office. You can download openoffice or libreoffice for free.

It's a business expense. Write it off. Not software but ATBS is $60 per month >>> http://www.atbs.com/pricing Just something to consider.

I have used actual accounting software in the past.
I used Sage for about 5 years, cost around $225 at the time to buy, no subscription. Good reporting printouts.
GNUCash for three years. Free. Basic reports.
One year I just used a 20 column accounting book and wrote it all down. No reports, had to get out the calculator anytime I wanted to know something.
Now I just use an account. Cost about $1,400 a year.

I just created a excel doc and modified it as needed the first 18 months or so....I think it is solid now. I have a blank if you want it. You will need MS Office. (I am not a fan of ANY other option for that.....20 year tech here....I could tell stories about free office!)

The hardest part is just sitting down to do it once a month. I don't do it once per week because either way it sucks and keeps me in a chair....so I might as well not torture myself more than 12x per year!

I could make it a lot easier and quicker on myself if I would just start making note of miles at state lines.
