Someone w/ experience in resigning from a trucking co. pls help!

I want to resign from the trucking company I work for. Rate now the truck is in Va. and the closest terminal is about 3 1/2 hours away in Pa. I really don't want to give them notice. I fear weather purposefully or not they will want me to run loads to work my way to a terminal and I will get stranded or set up with bad runs and not get to the terminal in a reasonable amount of time. When ever I deal w/ them I get stuck somewhere for hours or days. Can I legally drive the truck to the terminal w/out telling them? Can I tell them I am returning the truck and refuse loads? Does it matter if this is not the terminal I got the truck from?

 

Do you have another job lined up already? I don't know about the questions you asked; others can answer these. In general though, its always easier to get a job if you already have a job, and especially in this situation! If they black mark you and you don't have another job already, it would probably make it much tougher to line up that next job.

 

Proceed very carefully. You can make future employment very difficult for yourself if you just quit without giving notice. You know, any future employer is going to contact your former employers. Do NOT run the truck to the nearest terminal without telling them. You sound upset and probably for very good reason, but slow down, take a few deep breaths, and think about your future.

 

More than likely you agreed to pay a rather large amount of money per mile, usually in the 1-3 dollar per mile range, for just up and running the truck to the yard and quitting. Here is what you do.
Step one get a new job lined up with orientation set up in a month or so.
Step two go home and clean out your truck.
Step three go back out and turn in notice, usually two weeks
Step four at end of notice turn in truck and go home with a clean dac
Step five start new job.

Good for you.!!!!...It feels good to stand up for yourself and know you deserve much better treatment...Kudos to you..

Stop ''worrying'' about them.This is your LIFE and you need to stand your ground..No matter what you do or don't do,they will do whatever they want to do..So grab the bull by the horns and look out for #1....

You have every right to walk away from this treatment...Again,grow a set and move forward.No one needs this treatment...

You have every right to QUIT.And IMO they need to DH you home.It is only 3.5 hours away..I DH more to go home every week..They will not miss the money.It is a write off...But be aware,they will try to ''strong arm'' you.So again,stick to your guns and grow a set..

It should not matter.I am sure they will make a ''big deal'' out of this so thay can keep the Manipulation going...Again,stick to your guns and drop the truck off...!!!!!!!....They CAN NOT HOLD YOU AGAINST YOUR WILL....

And get out there and pound the pavement for a BETTER JOB......You will be fine.I have done this many many times...

 

just go to the yard and drop off the trk..if your done with them be done,, by the time they figure out what your doing you will be in the yard and someone will greet you to say your goodbyes..

 

Whatever you do, DO NOT abandon the truck. If they put that on your DAC report, you won't get hired anywhere worth working for. I would HIGHLY recommend following abn75's plan.

Dont forget to take pics (phone ok) of the outside, inside , engine compartment and anything else they could charge you for..

Follow the advice in posts # 3 , # 4 the other advice well its not the way you should do things and hope top have a decent DAC record for the future.
