Starting classes on April 21 in Phoenix

Hi all.
Starting my journey for becoming a CDL-A licensed driver in Arizona.

Starting classes in Phoenix as Southewest Truck Driver Training.

Thought I might keep a log of my journey and training.

Wish me luck and if you have any suggestions or questions i need to ask, fire them at me.

Ok, weekend 1 class completed 7 more weekends

ALL I CAN SAY, MANUAL, MANUAL, MANUAL.

20 HOURS OF BASIC KNOWLEGE, AIRBRAKES, COMBINATION. OYVE!

BUT HEY gotcha walk before you can fly.

My teacher BOB. Spelled BOB, is a nice old guy, 35 years of driving. Good guy.

How hard is learning DOUBLE CLUTCHING?
I can drive manual just fine, learned manual when I was 11 drove manual till 30 and play every now and then.

So DC?

 

The key to DC is the nudge. New people always go WAY, WAY too deep. You nudge. Then its just practice.
You will be required to demonstrate correct DC to pass driving test.

Don't try to shift quickly. I describe as lazy shifting. Just take your time.

Make smooth.
Smooth is fast.

 

Just watche "Floating and Hybrid" clutching...
Why not?
Hybrid makes all the sense on the world.
Having driven manuals on motorcycles and cars and trucks seems like the perfect solution?

 

I was taught to float, and that is what I did on my test.
But that was '93. Doh!

 

Can't teach someone how to double on the internet lol. Especially someone with 0 experience.
He must learn the way of the nudge.
Casper in cringing just thinking about a new driver matching revs and learning to double.

 

Fan clutch is still a mystery. Took a short trip to SoCal & back, so we'll see what it does. No doubt has something to do with the AC, and that's the one sensor I did change.
Wrench said a sensor could die slowly ( on / off / on / off ), not just die, and the temp sensor is like $160. Wiring looks fine.
It's just the way it acts down here too or where it's hot. If I don't turn the AC on, get on the highway, it will work normally, if I turn the AC on during warm up, or before I'm on the highway, the SOB will click on for 45 minutes.

 

Don't worry about floating/hybrid for now, you need to double clutch on your test. After that you can do whatever. I went to Southwest in Vegas, good teachers and relaxed atmosphere.
