Starting Roadmaster Tomorrow- Going Flatbed- Have an issue...

Good Morning everyone!

Been a lurker here for a long while. Finally pulled the trigger and enrolled in school at Roadmaster in Tulsa, OK. Live in Yukon, OK

I have put out applications at several places in the last 2 days. The issue I have is 2 speeding violations, one of which was for 21 over, and one 15 over the posted limit back in 2013. I think that is why I was rejected by Melton and for sure Maverick, they told me that was the reason. I have applied with TMC, Systems Trans, Paul Trans, and Keim TS. Just waiting to hear back from them.

Do you think I am screwed as far as getting hired with a decent company due to the speeding tickets? I have no accidents, felonies, misdemeanors, suspensions, revocations, no criminal background at all. I dont want to waste my time and money on school if i cant get hired somewhere "Decent". Not really interested in dry van at all.

I appreciate all of the information I have gotten from reading this forum. Hope to se you guys out on the road some day!!

I got hired with tickets like that...but the company had their own school. I would be wary if I were you by paying for school.

 

That 21 over is gonna hurt, and its recent. The mom and pop places might be your ticket.

 

you will not have an easy time witht he 21 over. the 15 over is just as bad. insurance companies will not allow you to be hired, ultimitatly that is who makes the decidtions

 

In the future you really want to avoid these tickets all together. However, no one is perfect and if you find your self looking down a 21mph and over ticket, you need to try to plead this down. This is done by speaking with the prosecutor on the day you have court. YMWV but most are willing to let you plead up to that limit to a non moving violation with possibly a higher fine. Never plead to the unsafe driver charge if your state has it. It will show up as that and everyone knows it was something more sinister, it also tends to have an outrageous fine (495 for example).

Companies are not your enemy when it comes to stuff like this. The insurance carrier is going to determine whether or not you can be hired with these tickets. Good luck to you and drive safer

 

learned from my mistakes and have not had a violation since. I just hope I havent ruined my chances.

 

how long ago were these tickets? were the less than 5 years ago?

21 and over counts as "reckless driving" in some states. YOU may not have been charged with reckless, but the companies in other states will look at it based on the traffic laws local to their dispatch department, not local to you.

Start knocking on doors local. See if you can find a small "mom and pop" outfit that'll train you (after school, insurance crap) and give you a shot.

 

You may have to settle for dry van or reefer just to get started, then you can switch to flatbed later. That's what I would do if I really want to drive trucks for a living. Try to get some pre-hires before spending money on trucking school.

Try the mom & pop places that other drivers recommended you try.
