i have been assigned a new truck tomorrow. brand new X15 Cummings with an 18 speed manual transmission, another day cab. im quite excited to get a truck with a 15 liter cummings. ive never driven a truck with a X15 but i hear they run great. 84 becomes a spare truck now, she served me well even if a little under powered for hauling milk.

You stole my thunder. I hope the OP doesn't get offended at your correction and report you as being "mean"

if youre saying i refuse to drive a crappy autoshift, you are correct. that doesn't make me a super trucker. i backed one of those things into oatka last night, you do not have the clutch to control backing. it was another walton truck and i watched the truck while that driver went home (he started earlier then i did). my boss has both autoshift and manual. truth be told, he used to drive an autoshift himself..... until backed into a building and hurt the back of a trailer. he has stopped buying autoshifts now, his last 4 new trucks..... all manual. he now has the twin to the truck im getting. same manual transmission. he no longer likes them.

they suck. my boss has been driving milk tanker for probably 40 years, if anyone knows how to drive, it's him

Settle down driver......we are talking about how you spelled the name of the ENGINE IN THE TRUCK! We were just having a little fun with you. It is spelled CUMMINS.......there is no G in the name. You really need to turn your "Im OFFENDED meter" down a few notches! Sheesh!!

Auto-shift trucks require a little different handling. If you read the book that comes with it, you can learn ways to make the trans work FOR you.

It's a tool. You learn to use it, or you move on.

I learned on a manual in 1993, and I can drive any shift pattern you care to name.

And I LOVE my Volvo I-Shift.

Just because YOU can't drive an autoshift effectively, doesn't mean they "suck".

Volvo ishift stuck in economy mode + hill climb = hell. On the plus side I have gotten good at hitting level 3 jakes to trick the transmission into 11th then dropping into manual mode for gear hold

I agree, but just put it in power mode.....

Still, you have learned how to make the IShift work FOR you.
