We are starting our own freight company and I could really use some help with questions to start off.. I'm starting from scratch. looking to buy One out right or lease a few. I'm in Florida and find a lot for sale but looking at all states as well. 1.What mileage should I be looking for? whats the best mileage to start looking at? 2. any suggestions on where I can start looking for trucks? 3. Whats the best Truck? I'm finding a lot of Volvo's Thanks so much, any feed back is appreciated.
White Volvos are the best quality Volvos. Volvos are the best quality trucks. Volvos are best bought at over 600k miles. Prime Inc leases the best White Volvos over 600k miles.
You know I wouldn’t bash Volvos, if I were you. They have the best cabs (maybe not anymore) and auto transmissions (with a warranty of 750K miles or 5 years (new transmission prices are a lot less than they used to be). Volvo D13 engine (up to 500k miles warranty) might not be as powerful, (not good for oversized &overweight) but they are good for regular freight. They are more quiet (except Paccar) than most other engines. And the fact that that Volvo designs and manufactures their major parts (including cab, engine, transmission etc.) gives you less problems in the long run.
@tcbamie ...Before you go any further with your plans you need to run some numbers. What will insurance cost? What freight lanes will you want and what are the rates? What do you figure for operating costs...fuel, wages, permits, taxes, parts, fines, a shop, a place to park, etc.? There's a whole lot more to look at than just buying a truck. Buying a truck is the easy part. Maybe when some of the smart-alecs get through giving you a bad time they'll share some information with you on just how hard it actually is to start a trucking company. We get several posts every week \from people with no trucking experience who want to start a company.
