Hey look another new driver wanting to squeeze a motorcycle behind their sleeper. As you can probably tell I've already seen photos, and read posts relating to this. However I can't seem to find out a few things. I am ordering a truck in December, and I think I'm going to have to stretch my frame about 4ft; which with an extended sleeper (that I'm used to kwt660 for coming to a year teaming (and another 6 months solo... I told y'all I'm new)) comes out to about 316 in. I haul 53ft trailers. I am however looking into going flatbed which would mean I'd lose a foot or so to the toolbox. Of course compromises can be made. (smaller sleeper, flat bed, small bike) Question time. How much would 4ft frame affect wheel base, and how much would that affect turn radius. I rarely (but do) have to get into doors designed for straight trucks, and of course parking for the night at a crammed flying J is always something to consider. What are the legalities regarding this stretch with a 53 foot trlr. Any other ideas? I've considered having an arm swivel out from the sleeper with some pulleys on it so a tiny gal like me can lift a bike up to the catwalk and possibly into a frame a little higher up to prevent interference with the break lines, or simply extend the lines to another fixed frame. However I'm not sure where I can go to have something like this fabricated. I don't exactly have a shed to work out of. What if I were to get the chassis of an extended sleeper, but only had a small sleeper instead? Though that really only saves a foot. If I can get a bike back there I would never need to go home, or even buy a home until way down the road, and plus I miss riding. Anyone? I would love a KW W900. Those babies are sexy. However I do have considerations to... Consider.
order what you want! Stretching the frame will void the warranty, and cost you $10,000? Set back axles turn well.
If you're ordering a truck, why not order it with a longer frame? Easy. Also why do you need 4 feet more? A bike is not very wide if you park it across the frame instead of lengthwise.
I have a little pit bike and have never had the desire to lift that heavy little ####er into a pickup bed much less a sleeper. Strap it to the bumper, yes.... but no lift.
I agree order what you want. Don't worry about how hard it's gonna be to get around. Once you have no choice you will figure out how pretty quickly.
