So I started with swift. Made it through the training and upgraded to solo status last week. So far everything great. get my truck and driver leader and make the call. He said to wait on my first dispatch. I nervously wait then the call comes to go to Alabama and help with Walmart dictated account for labor day weekend. So I bobtail over and u guessed it I'm now stuck like chuck. The swift gremlins bite. Now they tell me nothing ready until tomorrow and when I do get a load its one no one else here will take. I'm spending more money than I have coming in at this point and every call I make hits a wall or some ######## answers. Now they say I'm assigned to this account but I'm not local here I live bout 4 hours away. So like so many have said I sit here at a very small swift terminal next to a Walmart distribution center watching money fly out the window. I just started and already need a new job.

How do you know your load will be a load no one else wants? You just started give it a few weeks before you regret Swift.Although dispatch needs to get their head out of their ### and not send you anywhere unless they are positive theres a load.

This concerns me as I start with swift soon. What did your recruiter tell you you would be doing?

Yes it sucks.....however there will be many instances out here that suck. Best bet is to stay calm and work through it....communicate professionally and get the situation resolved. Understand it is a holiday and nothing will happen immediately.

Once you get experience you will learn how to deal with the holidays and will be prepared. Sometimes the best thing to say before or during a holiday is...NO.

The best thing to do before a holiday is quit swift. You think this sucks? I spent Xmas in San Antonio in a swift truck my first year. I had a lovely McDonald's meal.
This is part of what your first year sacrifice IS. Btw you're lucky to even be at Walmart for a first load.

Exactly. It is not a total loss DJ Hughes. You just learned your first lesson in major holidays.

Well welcome to Swift. The office trolls had nothing for you so they run you out of town to get you off their case. Doesn't matter if you are sweat as pie, they have a bad taste for all truckers. They may or may not have a Walmart load for you Tomorrow. They just need to get you down the road. They most likely not pay you for it too.

Walmart is usually a good gig in the Swift world. Most Walmart planning is done by Walmart not the Swift planners that cannot plan or even add and subtract. However, I expect you only got a load or two coming out of there. Maybe a return load or a load going to another depot. Might not even get it till Wednesday. If you are picking up for the dedicated you will be served the crap loads until another more senior driver fills the spot. Then you will be kicked to the OTR curb.
