What are the hardest places to get back out of? Sponge towns suck up freight but ship little. What are the worst sponge towns? Dry Vans...
I'm currently on a load to Flagstaff AZ. But even if I have to wait a day or so for the next load, this week since getting off home time has been good. A 900 mile run to IA, and from here a 1500 miler to AZ. All in about 5 days. Still have nearly 3 more till the pay week ends. This load has it's drawbacks, however. Picked up this evening and headed for the nearest TS - needed to weigh this 45k+ load and my hours are up. Came in at 77,800, with 34,400 on the tandems. I have 3/8 fuel. I can adjust the holes by 1 or 2 to get it better, but I'm not sure if I can get it purely legal. It is all the way forward now, and behind the tandems is empty. (I have a load of dog food) Plus, I can't add more than around 25 more gallons of fuel before going over 80k. Add to that, I tried to slide the tandems before I left the shipper - but I could not get them to budge. I even used the lock-jaws to hold the release lever out the last 1/2 inch, but 1 pin seems to jam whenever I try to slide it. Hammer it in, no luck. It just sticks again. Spent 1/2 hour at the shipper trying, then gave up and headed to the Flying J to check the actual weights. I'll try again in the morning, but I don't know what I will do if I can't get it to slide. Go back to the shipper and have them stack the last few pallets to get the weight further forward?
Pretty much West Coast is slower, I was in Portland most of the week. Now I did finish a 3k coast to coast run before so I needed the reset and b service. That Troutdale, OR shop is pretty fast, about the fastest Ive seen at Swift. Driving down the 101 in Oregon today, #### that is freaking beautiful to see the ocean and sights.
If the tandems you are refering to are the trailer axles this is an easy fix. Slide the trailer tandems 3 holes to the rear and you will be legal, 2 should do it but since you're not that close to 80K do it the easy way. As for adding fuel, you could fill the tanks all the way and not go over 80K. 25 gallons of diesel only weighs about 180 lbs.
