Wondering which company you guys would pick im currently with swift but their speed policy is a pain cant go past 67 or you get written warning.. and also cameras suck got a verbal warning for speeding on a 50mph zone in the middle of the desert with no one infront in arizona.. seriously thinking of switching to schneider..
How long have you been at Swift. I would def say Schneider but if you start job hopping too quick it will hurt you in the long run.
My truck runs 62. But with a heavy load and a small downward hill they want me to keep the speed at 62..
I guess OP doesn't realize he's being tested~keep getting those speed warnings is going to lead to a speedy firing
In all honesty I worked for Swift for 4 years and frankly they are not really all bad... I had good miles and good pay when I worked for them. I left for a job at home due to only getting 4 days a month off if that. I was on a dedicated DCX run and got weekends for about 2 years and when it ended all that was left was otr. The wife wanted me home. Thats the side that kills it for new drivers and why they have a terrible turn over rate. New guys will go in thinking about being able to feed their family's and by the time they get home so much has happened and changed they realize it just isn't their cup of tea. I will also tell you that I NEVER went over the speed limit and I got passed 50 times by the same truck all day and would stop for the night and look out and see those same trucks pulling into the same truck stop. It is NOT about speed but rather being consistent and not stopping at every bathroom or drink stop. You can get good miles just by being consistent. My FLD and Century where both set at 62 while the Volvo's where both set at 65. As for the verbal warnings put it in the right gear before you roll down a 5% grade and dont speed in slow zones you wont get one. That was the same policy when I worked there and in 4 years I didn't get a single over speed warning. I was never out to go fast I was out to be safe and take care of my family. Its a hard life and you have to be made of tough skin and KNOW your priority's and why you do what you do! Its also a fun and educational life that has many benefits if you play it right! Tust me at a year all kinds of doors open! When it comes to big companies it isn't always better on the other side and you do not realize it till you get to the other side. One of the worst things you can do as a new driver is to jump companies too fast it will literally kill your career! If you do job swap to many times in your first year you can be sure not many places will even look at your app. Hang it out for the first year and doors will open everywhere! Its worth the wait! I have been off the road for many years and am going back to it again and I am speaking from experience whoever I decide on is stuck with me for at least a year. It will pay off in the long run. That all goes back to sticking it out because your future is much better if you do. These startup companies are all similar and are using you for cheap labor that first year and they know you probably are going to move after a year. I did make good money but that was after a my year was up I was going to leave but I got the numbers for them and they raised my CPM to keep that and I was given a fantastic DM. On another note if your DM is a pain in the tucus ask for a different one. The reality is they have almost as bad of a turn over rate for a reason... Its not worth you being angry if you can provide the miles they will work with you! I would bet that schnieder is also going to cameras its becoming an industry standard slowly. I dont mean this as a lecture just my experience working for swift albeit years ago. Take it for what its worth to you and I wish you the best of luck!
