I am supposed to head to orientation for Swift in Jonestown, PA on Sept. 18th. I don't have much experience on 8, 9, and 10 speed but my recruiter said it wouldn't be a problem because I could get an auto shift truck. Is this ########? I don't think I'd fail the road test on a manual but I'd be rusty. I kinda like the auto shift and it would be nice to get one.

I thought as much. I decided to go with Swift because it is large and there are a lot of opportunities. I could eventually get a regional or local position with them.

Sounds like you have a plan. just take your time on the shifting and you will be okay.

Is Swift patient with new drivers? Will they be forgiving of a mistake that isn't accident-related.

Yes, they are a training company. Most of their driving force is new drivers. I can see them putting you in an automatic, I heard megas do this quite often.

I hope they have better quality equipment than Western Express. I left Western because they kept assigning me trucks that would break down. I upgraded to solo and the trucks were just crap, not just cosmetically but mechanically. One even was overcharging at 16 volts. Yipe

Ya they patient. They will be forgiving as long as its not a habit. Or if you communicate everything. Example: via qualcomm; arrived shipper, left shipper. Eta etc. Very simple to deal with them.
