Every time I need something done to my truck it seems like swift shops just blow me off....always whining they understaffed...people don't show up...it will take days just to look at it,blah blah blah!

So I take my truck to Syracuse coz I heard that they were a good shop and might even care! But nope same old bs....I need to make decisions if I'm going to keep this truck or not,but no one will just take the time or care to diagnose her so I can at least get an idea why my fuel mileage is so bad lately.....and it seems every dealer or cummins shop is the same....I mean seriously the dealers shop or cummins won't even look at her? With out a several day wait? Is it better to just take it to petro or ta to get it diagnosed? Shop always saying it has 400,000 miles on it,maybe something major....we don't do warranty work, blah blah blah....then starts telling me the dealer would use like a 50 page diagnose tree sheet book bs thing....wtf? Am I wrong to assume you can just hook her up to the fault reader and get a good idea from that?seriously po.....!

Oh and the service manager tells me that he can diagnose anything if the warning light isn't on at the time they are looking at her, well I say bs.....truck stores the codes and u can take a fairly educated guess as to what COULD be responsible for low mpgs! If it's r&r parts....no problem I can do it....

you don't need codes to have bad mileage. there are any number of things that can be starting to fail. but won't trigger a code TILL they fail completely.
and yes, sometimes it takes a 50 page trouble shooting chart.

diagnosing isn't really on the top of anyones list. they don't make any money. which means, pulling truck in and looking on the spare time.
not always the case. but it DOES happen sometimes.

i feel your pain. but you really complaining about things that are out of your control. since you've obviously never been a mechanic. LOL.

Take it to a dealer ... given the past history with the egr cooler and the current mileage, you shoud probably take the dpf system apart and have it cleaned .. bake the dpf, clean the sensors, clean the dzr, clean the venturi tubes clean the prefilter ... make sure the dpf is flow tested and pin tested.

Swift can do none of these thing ... thier idea of cleaning the dpf is to take it out and bang it on the ground.

ok....I kind of got that feeling when no one seems interested....but how would I really know what they have to do? Thanks for your help but the whining helped me a little...even if ineffective.....I'm mechanical, but not diagnostical, lol .....didn't know ....it's the pain of money being literally sucked thru my soul......as I'm at the end of my lease...three more months to go...

no warranty .. normal maintenance ... need to be done around 300k miles ... cost will be in the $1800 range ... unless the dpf is done ... then add another $2400 ... if you decide to keep the truck it's going to have to be done regardless.

yes which is why I would like it diagnosed that that's what it needs first before...I get that type of a repair.....I've seen to many mechanics that when it isn't there money....will literally just replace parts just to see if it will help instead of finding out for sure.....but what the hey? It's not there money right.....and swift shops do it a lot.....

Maybe it's best to just deal with it until home time.....where I can be comfortable with a long wait

That's what I do ... truck gets parked at the dealer and always have a shopping list that needs to be done ... plus oil analysis.
