I’ve seen at some ta/Petro locations mostly tas that half or more of the lot is reserved pay spots. I’ve seen this in the last year and am beginning to not like them as much and have started to avoid ta in general but especially those particular locations.
It's great when you know where you're going and know it'll be full by then. Just buy a spot and relax.
I’ve always tried to used TA/Petro. Just seems like more of a truck stop to me. Kinda like the old 76s. I find myself seeking out independent places now if I can. The whole paying for parking to me seems kinda gross and like a money grab. I guess I’m probably in the minority here. Just like driver facing cameras. I think it’s wrong. I know we have to “change with the times” but some things just feel wrong. IMO.
I dont mind paying for parking, especially if they're planning to put that money into parking lot maintenance. I fuel there, so I always have points to park with, so it's free, and I'm more sure if getting a spot if I'm between loads late in the evening. I like that they tend to be closer to the store too.
I just seen a post of the paid spots at TA and that they are wanting to raise the fees. Think article stated they've made over $150k in parking fees...
They are not improving the parking lots. The TA by Jefferson Ohio it like 75 % paid parking. The loves at the same exit is free and they expanded their parking lot. You stop at that TA and fuel say at 1pm you you have park in reverse parking to get a shower. The BIG advantage of not fueling at TA. Their security guards shoot drivers now. I guess that security guard killed himself that shoot the driver in reserved parking.
The real statistic you should look at is: What percentage of the PAID parking spots are used on a nightly bases? If less than 50%, then they have too many. If over 90%, then not enough. Why shouldn't the truckstop charge for parking if the paid parking spots are full. There is the chance that some of that money might go to upkeep of the truckstop.
