Things to say in an interview.

Any words or comments that might help me during my interview or to put on my app?

 

"I have a pulse"

"I can tell left from right- most days"

Now that I have the snarky out of my system - for most of the majors they're going to ask about job history (why you left), criminal background, what driving school you went to, and what endorsements/experience driving do you have.

 

Heh....the past month I've actually been interviewing trucking companies instead of the other way around. I turned quite a few down.

Found a good gig though, after searching around for the best job that's been available.

When trucking companies scream bloody murder for lack of drivers, they will pretty much do whatever they can to get another body into that orientation room.

If you manage to get 3 years OTR experience with a clean driving and criminal record, then you're the pot at the end of the rainbow.

 

Do not lie on any paper work and make you can pass a wiz quiz

 

Be sure to ask if they do the hair test for drugs,

they love to hear that !!

 

In all seriousness, the one thing I've found that they like to hear is "I'm a safe driver."

 

I always asked so why should I want to work for your company ?

Or so tell me what makes your company any different than the rest of the trucking companies out there ?

Another one to ask I know what I can do to make your company better what can you to make my life better?

Or ok now lets put all of your promises on paper . This one makes them really squirm !!!!

 

There are many keywords that employers look for on job apps and interviews along with body language and the way you dress and present yourself. Dress nice, be affirmative, sit up straight and mind your posture. Also within reason mimic your interviewer with body simulations. (the way you sit, fold your arms etc...) Always look them in the eye, don't mumble and speak up. Don't answer their questions with questions or say maybe, possibly etc... Some key words they like to hear are "team" or "part of the team" etc... Practice on using some college level vocabulary instead of truck stop, cb lingo! Let them know you are a hustler, go-getter, reliable, always on time, punctual etc...

Be sure not to over extend yourself or take up too much of their time during the interview. At the end of the interview be sure to thank them for their time, shake their hand etc... The next day be sure to send them an email thanking them for their time and just briefly summing up what went on. Not only is this a courtesy but it keeps you in their mind. They are less apt to forget someone who does this. If more than a few days go by before hearing from them then just call or send a little email. Don't sound too push though.

Before all of this make sure to write a good resume. A good resume shows that you are serious about the job!
