I have been thinking of becoming an owner operator. I have some questions. There is plenty of work pulling containers from the piers in NJ to locations from a company called Universal out of WI. Before I even look for a truck what questions should I be asking this company? They claim the following, Home nights and weekends, no touch freight, 70% billed revenue, 100% fuel surcharge, fuel discounts, plate and ins. program.

Has anyone dealt with them are they any good. I have 30 years CDL, 3 with class A, I have ALL my endorsements and a TWIC card. I'm retired and have a pension so it wouldn't be my main course of income. Any help would be appreciated

    70% of what

70% of 3.00 is alot more than 70% of 1.25

Well....he said its 70% of billed revenue...doesnt that tell you exactly how much he makes?? hahaha...no mention of how much the company skims first and the 100% FSC is guarenteed to be 100% of the 75% or so that they are gonna pay...hahaha

Universal is part of great wide and so is pacer and a lot of schmucks like that just take a look at the trucks they pull these containers with what does that tell you?.Starvin Marvin kinda outfit?:biggrin_2554:
If you are lucky and the DOT don't slap you with fine daily going in & out of the ports for hauling these tragic lokkin containers let alone dealing with the port personnel "Zambies" you may take home $1500/wk minus Fuel,Flats,Tolls etc.So be sure to ask your finance company before you buy the truck to haul for the ports if they will accept Food Stamps in lieu of Cash for a Truck Payment.70% of nothin = :biggrin_2552:
