I know it has been asked before but I would like updated opinions.I have prehires from TMC and Maverick and sofar its very hard to make a choice.I would like to hear from people who drive for either to tell me what makes one better than the other, especially if you worked for both. (notarps?)For me the most important thing is money, then hometime then trucks.I know they tie for hometime but Mav. says if you don't get home they pay you for 800 miles,Tmc never mentioned. TMC clearly has nicer trucks but no power inverters. I Don't know much about the money except that these are the best two choices for a rookie. I thank you in advance for your opinions. p.s. forgot to mention making the most money possible while staying legal is most important to me.

Good questions. Can I piggyback one more? Both TMC and Maverick reference owner/operators, but I haven't seen a whole lot of information on their O/O programs. Would anyone be able to share some experience as an O/O with either company?

I thought this was a interesting topic since these are clearly the best two companies to choose from but nobody seems interested so I will bump this thred up with some homework I did on my own.First of all if I finished at Maverick in 7 weeks the same as TMC then I would be up $1150 at that point. Now lets say TMC starts paying tuition payback after 2 weeks witch Maverick does not pay I would be up $625 at this point at Maverick. From this point on at Maverick I would make $352 more a month if all miles were equal. Minus my $220 a month tuithion payment I would still be up $132 a month at Maverick if my math is right. I am trying to find a way to go to TMC but the math just aint working right. If my math is'nt working right just let me know. I will let you know the winner on Memorial day, that's when TMC wants to know my desition. I graduate on June 1.

Perhaps TMC and Maverick drivers are out, well, driving. Usually, we have only weekends to respond to post.
You didn't show your math so I have no idea how you arrived at $132.00 a month ahead at Maverick.
Maverick does pay more at orientation and during the time out training, but you will have to wait weeks or even months before they send you to orientation. With TMC you will be making money as a driver during this time.
If you are on percentage with TMC you have the opportunity to go to 32% after only one month. While you will have to have all the breaks going your way and you will have to hustle to get to 32% a more realistic expectation will be 27% to 29%. Roughly speaking, this is around .45 cents plus per mile. If and when you make it to 32% this is over .50 cent per mile.
Maverick drivers can post their case. -

Now you want to settle for the quickest and easiest or do you want top shelf?
TMC drivers can post their case.
Both are good companies. I guess it just depends on which one fits better. In my opinion TMC has went down hill quite a bit over the years from the drivers that I spoken with. I was looking at both companies when I went with maverick. Hey terry I see you on the road and I will buy you a cup of coffee. I reckon we can meet at a blue beacon while you are rubbing on that chrome.
-
And before you retort.... I go to the blue beacon too, but my truck is not black and does not show dirt as bad. By the time you exit the truck wash it is time to pull over and rub on it to keep her shiny......
Maverick line 4... 15 minute pre-trip. TMC line 4... 10 hours rubbing and polishing.....

Maverick hires knuckle draggers, just look at notarps4me's photograph.
I rest my case. The only time I had to polish my chrome for hours was when I parked between the two Maverick trucks while loading. For some reason my chrome started tarnishing and peeling. I'm not saying it was Maverick's fault, but it makes you think!
Mr. No, I will take you up on your offer for a cup of coffee. You won't mind if I park a few spaces down from you? I do have a reputation to uphold, you know.
NukedNative Thanks this. -
terrylamar, what kinds of things bring up the pay? Also I don't have to wait for Maverick, they say drivers from Ohio don't have to wait.
-
The things that affect your pay are: out of route percentage, fuel mileage, transflow turn around time, delivery on time/not on time, truck appearance, accidents, incidences, load claims, TQM, Road Scholar, DOT inspections. I'm sure there are others, but it is late at night. Some of these are negative points some are positive.
After one month an average driver will make 27% to 28%. When freight improves and you hustle a little you can easily move up to 29% to 30%. To make it to 31% or 32% you will have to have a real good FM, be on some dedicated accounts or long haul and be willing to stay out several weeks at a time.
When I was on Long Haul I made it to 29% my first month. It should have been 30%, but I had a -5 deduction because I didn't understand trippack turn around time. The following month I went up to 31%. I was a brand new driver with my CDL school and two months experience with TMC. I'm on Line Haul now and live in Texas. Freight is cheap here. I am trying to get my FM to send me on longer better paying runs. He seems to be coming around. Last week I was sent to Colorado, on the California and back. It was not my best paycheck, but it was over $1,500.00 and right at $1,000.00 coming back. I was working on recap hours which restricted my work day and I got stuck in Arizona hauling some copper which is very cheap.
