Start off by saying this is indeed my fault.
For continuing the load and for being at this company in the first place. Ironically I told myself this is my last load for this company(it’s getting me home) as I have been pre approved already at another job. They’re just waited for me to get back home so I can do my drug test
But anyway let’s start the story
I got on with a mega. Yes I know.
but ultimately my plan was to be home more( I have a child now) and become a mentor.
the mega allowed me to do both, just have to be here 30 days at minimum
however not long after getting here I realized that wasn’t going to happen, as this is by far the worst ran company I’ve been to, hence me having another job lined up.
now let’s get to the load
Sunday I reject a load, citing that I won’t be able to pick it up on time(8am Chicago) and I have a live unload around that same time, 60 miles away almost in Wisconsin.. not to mention it’s over 900 miles and has to be delivery by 5pm the next day.
this is a “non forced dispatch “ company.
So after I reject load due to scheduling conflict they call me immediately asking why. I told them again over the phone(previously i wrote why in free form message but they claim they didn’t see it )
after trying to convince me to stay on, I tell them no, I literally won’t be able to make the live load on time. They say ok. Remove me off load.
30 minutes or so later I get a message on tablet saying that I am “the first person for the load “(whether that means) and that they are putting the load back on me and to just “do the best I can “
So after finishing first live unload and making it to live load at 1pm I get to what is not a warehouse or anything. Just a building with some docks on a busy street. Not being able to find somewhere to pull over and speak to receiving safely I had to leave and find a real parking area like 2 miles away.
i call my driver leader and tell her the situation. That I can safely park on the street nor can I safely back up without any spotter. Tell her the only way I can complete this pick up is if they can contact the shipper and have someone come out and assist.
I get a message that they have asked for assistance for me and to return.
once I do. The same issue. This time I do double park on the curb across the street and after waiting 3 minutes for traffic to ease up i go inside.
to my surprise, or not, nobody speaks English. So off the rip I know my company lied about contacting them.
the guy uses a translator app to tell me to back up on the street and turn into the ally.
Obviously I don’t do this and instead go back, get on the freeway and re enter the street so I can safely make the turn into the alley
They load half the product and the other half has to
Be loaded onto the docks off the Main Street.
accident:
Trying to back into the dock off a busy street.
Was a little hard, especially since the docks are dark as hell with no light for whatever reason.
the backing manuevers themselves weren’t that hard, I’m just making sure I don’t hit a car.
little did i know, in the dark warehouse, that they have a piece off metal that’s broke that my door was hitting the whole time.
Yes it’s my fault.
1 I should of stood firm on not accepting a load i couldn’t pick up on time nor deliver on time
2 when I came back and seen no one would help me spot or even attempt to stop traffic I should of left again.
3 i should’ve GOAL. Even if I was causing a traffic jam in a Chicago ghetto
this sucks since it is my first accident in like 8 years
And this is not the company worth doing anything to get a record ding for
I’ll attach some photos
Today I had my worst day in trucking in my almost 10 year career(accident related)

I was going to guess cheap fans, probably for dollar general. I know that dump intimately, and I have no desire to return.

That sucks man. Sorry. Those kind of deals you do the best you can at the time and sometimes you still get screwed. At least you didn’t hit someone else.

I'd call them and let them know before you move ahead, be honest and let them know about the accident.
Walk Among Us, Lonesome, OldeSkool and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sorry you think this is your accident, the damage is on the place that you backed into. If you were my driver, I would consider this as them damaging the trailer. If someone wants to know why, it is simple: they can't have crap sticking out of their dock without expecting there to be damage to a truck backing up.
Good luck in your next venture.Gearjammin' Penguin, Feedman, Siinman and 11 others Thank this.
