transmission will not shift in to high side

    I have a 1996 pete 378 with a 3176 cat and a 8LL trans all of a sudden in will not sift to high side all it does is grind. removed all air lines to trans. and blew them out removed air cylinder on back of trans and clean resealed, also removed top cover and watched the gear cluster move seemed to engage and disengaged fine?? at loss is it time for new trans? any help would be great thanks

    You cant see the rear section from with the top cover off, drain the oil and look for metal shavings, My buddy had a similar problem but it was'nt a 8LL,he had a 9 speed and ended up re-doing the rear section they found exsesive wear on the syncro.(cost him about $800 and a day to do it )

    On the 8LL, if the shifter for the creeper gears gets partially engaged or out of adjustment, it will prevent you from shifting into the high side. Was it suddenly an issue, or did it come about gradually? I'm trying to remember what the switch looked like, I only drove one a couple times several years ago, but I had that problem, once.

    sounds like the syncro in the back box
