Turned down by Prime for a new driver CDL training due to work history. I know it's less than desired, but in this economy I'm thinking other may have had issues good or bad. Did you have issues getting accepted to a company sponsored CDL training? Or did you get in to a training program with a troubled work history? Please tell us your story. Thanks, E

I found it is best just to call the company's your interested in first and ask what their work history policy is before you waste your time filling out a app. Every company does things differently as you will find out, I'm not sure where you are located at but I know Central Ref. and FFE are a little more forgiving on work history. If you have been unemployed over a year some company's like Prime,May and I'm sure there are others will not hire you but like I said each company has their own requirements.

Thanks Privy, I applied to FFE on Friday, called some of my former employers to see if I could get a recomendation, most were positive, one gave me the run around.

Ya, FFE seems to be ok to start off with no real up front cost other than Lic fees and if you stay a year training is free other wise it is $3900 and they do not pro-rate it. I asked, and you must stay a full year if you leave at 6 months or 1 day shy of a year you are resposible for the whole amount also 1-6 weeks out with trainer at $455 a wk not to bad some pay more some less.

Yes, in my situation I gotta pay my dues so to speak. I mean I'd hope I could stay longer than a year, but I would also like to make more cash! As with most companies you heard good and bad. Seems at least it's about even with PPE.

Tell us about your work history.Did you work for alot of places, was you a good employee? With trucking application, you can't leave anything out, dates, number, zip code, ect. My work history is as long as your arm but I don't have any trouble finding work.I have an application that I copy from.No way could I rememebr all the places i've worked. Some companies are stricter then others.Prime may be looking at how long you stayed with your emplyer too.

    Hi Patti,

Since after moving here in July 2009. The only work I could find in my field was 1099 work, so supposedly, I worked for myself. It was also a step backward in my abilities/career, but work is work. After 3 years I've worked for 6 different companies, time ranging from 1 year to 1 month. Most I left because of a work slow down or was temp. to begin with. One I was fired for complaining about tech support. We got paid piece rate and tech support got paid hourly. So know one cared how long they took getting stuff to work, it was ridiculous.

Hi ipogsd,Try real hard to think where you worked other then 1099,what exactly is that?Anyway, companies want a 10 yr work history. They don't want ANY GAPS.So if you were unemployed, put that down.

The applications wants the last 3 years of employers and unemployed time. They also ask for information on any companies you work for in the last 10 years as a commercial driver.
A 1099 is working for a company as a contractor. Company pays you a hourly rate, or peice rate based on what you turn in for time or work completed. They don't take out taxes or other deductions, it's up to the contractor to do this. You are suposedly left to complete the work given to you at you own pace. The reallity is that many companies are just using this as a way to avoid paying taxes. They still demand you show up at a curtian time, take the jobs they give you, more or less just like an employee. The goverment doesn't police them so they get away with it. It's really abused by most employer's I've worked for. I don't really understand why the goverment doesn't crack down on them. But hey I'm getting of topic.

I always thought companies require a work history because FMCSA requires it.You could be right but I don't see how that can be used for companies to avoid paying taxes.I think the 10 yr work history is stupid especially if you're not 100% accurate on everything,I don't see what that has to do with driving trk.In your case you only have a 3 yr work history but that does'nt mean they still won't want the 10 yr history once you get to orientation.
