Hello Everyone, The first question I have is why do some drivers not want to drive in the northeast? I can see in the winter that it would stink with ice and snow, but summer shouldnt be a problem, and fall is a beautiful time there. Is it the road system that stinks? Ill need to break the second question down into a few related questions, and I hope its not a silly question. Ive been wondering about this though, and it concerns OTR drivers who take on a heavy schedule like 6 weeks on with two days at home before going back out again. It also depends on individual circumstances. This kind of schedule offers very little home time, so for those drivers who really have no home commitment (i.e. husband/wife teams with no kids, drivers with no kids who take their spouses on the road with them, or single, unattached drivers) Im wondering if its even worth having a home. Is there any sense in renting an apartment if youll be there maybe 30 days out of the year? It seems like a waste of money. For this type of situation, can and do drivers literally make their truck their home? During down time it seems it would be better just to stay in a motel for a couple of days before going back out on the road. And if drivers do live out of their trucks the year round, what can they use for a home address? For residency purposes like voting, opening a checking account, or something like that, it seems some kind of address is necessary. Can a driver use the address of a home terminal as his/her address? I dont have any more family members that I know of, so I cant use a family members address. Ill also be taking my wife on the road with me, and she doesnt have family members in this country. Maybe I can use a friends address, but I dont want to impose. After some experience where I can switch to a regional or local route, an apartment would make sense, but the first year or so I just dont see the point if its really not needed. Anyway, just wondering how experienced drivers in this situation handle it. Thanks in advance.
Horrible traffic, stupid anti idle laws, streets designed for horse drawn wagons, toll roads everywhere, a lot of places only let you park if you pay them, fuel and everything else is way overpriced, etc. Yes. Friend's, relatives, I dunno if you can get away with a mailing service anymore but there's probably some that will work. I don't think you can use the terminal as a home address, though. They catch on to that.
You can't have a po box on your cdl. You have to have some kind of address valid enough to pass off as an actual home. PO boxes used to work but then 9/11. I don't think the IRS likes it either. There's a couple other ones, I forget what they are.
I have an Az. CDL, just re-newed it last month. I have my PO box address on the license, however, they have my home address in their file.
That varies by state then. Ugh, federal license bound by hundreds of state rules and hundreds more federal rules. It's probably technically illegal for anyone to even have one.
