I seem to have more troubles after upgrades, not before. Especially the ones with panic mode attached to get you to update "right now or you're doomed".

    G13Tomcat Thanks this.

Not doomed but this particular issue is rather serious. An Israeli company (since bought by a US Company) developed is nasty little bug for "government use only".... (HA, ya right)

It has been used by a few governments to spy on certain people and has now been patched before it got out in the wild, assuming it hasn't already been released beyond "government use" which is in an of itself scary.

Apple was made aware of this three pronged attack and in a very few days released patches for their iOS platform and now their Mac OS platform.

Gotta love an ecosystem that can not only respond to such a threat but roll out patches to ANYONE within their ecosystem too.

    Atta Boy Apple!!!

And this is a rather rare Apple Event of "no seriously, update your stuff now!"

Don't click any of the adds that say there is a chubby 40 something mother near you that wants to see you now and you will be fine.

You're thinking about the PC platform.

Macs can have issues, thus this update, but one must normally be tricked into "installing" them ... Clicking stuff is much less likely to be an issue.

In this case it would have been from clicking on a link within an email or message that would kick off the three prong attack resulting in opening your Mac.

But one must be ever vigilant for sure.
