An Ohio couple who drives for US Xpress died in a fire on I-80 Nebraska December 18th 2013. They were hauling a Fed Ex load. Such a sad story to read, especially before Christmas.

    Everyone be safe out there.

At around noon Wednesday, authorities say a semi truck went off the road while driving on Eastbound I-80 near the West O on ramp. The Nebraska State Patrol says a husband and wife, who drove the U.S. Express truck together, were killed.

State Patrol confirmed Thursday that the woman was sleeping in the cab of the truck while the husband was driving. The couple was from East Canton, Ohio.
Thick black smoke from the fire could be seen from miles away. Officials tried to get her out, but weren't able to.

"They were trying to get her out when the truck started on fire. They were unable to get her out and she died as a result of the fire," NSP Sgt. Tim Salmen said.

Eyewitnesses say they heard an explosion. Once firefighters finally got the flames under control, what was left of the truck was unrecognizable. "They were hauling extra packages for FedEX, so nothing that was dangerous as far as explosive or chemical, so probably a lot of Christmas presents that aren't going to make it to their destination," Salmen said.

I–80 reopened after two hours and the O street on ramp was reopened on Thursday.
The names of the couple won't be released until relatives are notified.

My very deepest condolences, to all involved, I'm wondering why she went off the road like that? I am so sorry about this, They were hauling Extra Packages for Fed Ex, there are some people who are not going to get there packages in time, but there is a family that will be mourning the loss of family members.

I wonder if USX will pay to get the remains of the people that died to their families or if that will be left up to the families to get them home safely? for those who think this is just ME being rude back a while ago a driver was a O/O for a company and they didn't care anymore about getting him home to be respectfully laid to rest then the man on the moon, The family finally heard from a few Forum members and they got the ball rolling to get him home to his family.

This is such a tragedy. I'm sure I can speak for all members of this forum of our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
I'm hopeful that they were doing what they truly loved, trucking, when their lives were taken so abruptly. So sad.

The reporter on the video stated the woman was driving, but the written report says the husband was driving and that she was in the sleeper.
I'd tend to believe she was in the sleeper, due to the reported efforts of the emergency crew trying to get her out.
Such a sad tragedy, at any time, but as TruckDuo said, especially only days before Christmas.
