USDOT# and MC# application

So I am a little unsure on this. When I apply for my MC# do I get a USDOT# with that or do I have to fill out a different application for this?

 

When you apply for your usdot, you are assigned an MC number (they call it a docket number). It goes active after you get a process agent and insurance sent to the fmcsa

 

All seems confusing just for contracting for a company that just lifting drywall into houses no more then 25 miles out (90% of the time 5 mi out). Yea I am using a drywall boom truck.
The other thing that suck is I a missing the first month of peak while I have to make insurance and truck payments doing nothing.

 

They are two totally different things. Anyone who has any kind of truck has to have a DOT number. An MC number is for someone who trucks for hire.

 

Are you staying in the same state? If so, you don't need an mc number, just a DOT, which you can get today. Depending on your state, you may need intrastate authority from them.

 

Take for example, a farmer that only hauls his own grain from his own farm only has to have a DOT number because he's not hauling for hire, just his own product.

 

Yea I am staying in the same state but I thought since I am for hire I need a MC number#.

Then again the old owner did say something about just a DOT# number that was $100. Then on the other had the contracting company did say get own authority.

 

What state are you in. You may need intrastate authority,. If not, buy the insurance, get a DOT number, get compliant with a driver file, drug testing program, etc, and go make some money. OOIDA can help you with everything you need to be compliant.

 

I am in Iowa. The job would pay out would be $53,000 to $73,000 before expenses. The think is they make even small operation a pain to run. All I do is pick up dry wall drive about 5 to 10 miles use a drywall boom truck to unload it. I spend more time unload and loading then driving.
I don't know why drug testing would need to be done again and again. I had one for my DOT card just recently nothing helped in between.

 

Because you would be considered a trucking company, so you have to follow all the rules including drug testing, just like every other one man show out there. I don't believe Iowa has intrastate authority so you should be good to go there. BTW, that pay is no where near enough. My buddy works for a company inVirginia driving the truck and running the boom and makes the higher end of that revenue, plus he gets benefits and has no expenses.
