Any drivers currently going through the VA Apprenticeship through Roehl? I'm looking to go with them after I get out of the Army and finish truck driving school. My question is will I be able to still get the apprenticeship money even though I am taking ETS leave?

not sure about the apprenticeship money but I do know that you won't be able to get the BAH while on terminal leave...

    Thanks for your service, Ford.

I completed the 1st year. Was the 1st of their drivers to start the new program, and 2nd to finish. It's very simple if you just set aside a few hours/wk to get the online trainings completed. And yes, you'll get paid for it. It is $ from the VA, not the Army. It would be just like taking college courses while still in the service.

When you speak with her, tell Linea that Rob says hello. All the apprenticeship people are great!

    Ford,

I'm going to start doing the Apprentice stuff in August. I spoke with the VA directly on it. It will be about $850 ish a month for the first 6 months. Then it goes down 20% the next 6 months. Roehl offers it for 2 years. But in all honesty I would stop it after the first year. That way you will still have some of the GI left.

You will have to wait until you are officially released from the military. I start terminal leave in May but I can't start the Apprentice program until august when I am officially released from the military. Got to love double dipping :)

Thank you for your service as well. I spoke with Jacob Howey about the program and he told me it started after my ETS date, just wanted to be sure that it was correct and not recruiter talk. Good to know that it works just like tuition assistance while you're in, probably will do the one year apprenticeship and then maybe take some online college courses after that. Gotta love the post 9/11 GI Bill!

I may stand corrected. Especially if Jacob also said as much. I guess he's kind of a recruiter for the apprenticeship, but not in the way that the company recruiters are. He gets paid a straight salary, and I know him slightly better than acquaintance-ship. He wouldn't lie about that. So you probably have to wait til after leave.

    Eh, I suck, whatever :biggrin_25522:

    Ford L8000 Thanks this.

I have found out that now the GIBill will pay for other schools and courses.. like, Fly rod building, and fly fishing guide, camp cook, and whole lot of other outdoors type stuff. Most of these courses are only a week or two long. since I only have 13 months left on post 911 I think I may use it when I take vacation time and learn all the outdoor stuff I am passionate about...

Ford L8000 and KF7WTV Thank this.
