I have been thinking about getting a volvo for the improved mpg but am a little leery with all the supposed problems. I was wanting to ask those who run or have run about their trucks. Are their problems real or is it a one truck was a lemon so they must all be bad? I transport horses so reliability is paramount.
I have an '07 780 with the ISX, but it is the '06 engine, so NO DPF. I have had a few electrical issues annoyances in the cab, but nothing disabling. The engine has also had it's issues, mostly EGR related, but the have always been repaired quickly, and never left me by the side of the road. The later year with DPF has been worse from what I have heard.
i would agree with the 07 with 06 motor. had an 06 670 previous to my current 09 780. love the room and overall feel of the 780 but miss the non dpf motor.
Thanks ya'll. Now to start keeping my eyes open for a little older, lowere mileage or rebuilt midroof, preferably with a 13spd. Flats and a big gooseneck horsetrailer. Too many low limbs where I go for a tall condo.
I maintain a fleet of VNM with detroits and the Volvo D12 all pre 2007. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE DETROITS....... BUT the volvo engines every day is a challenge. First question are you doing the repairs or shop/dealer ? Every job even what should be simple is a challenge and time consuming. Everything is burried around the D12 engine access is poor and you usally wind up taking off several other parts to get to what you want to repair. Many electrical problems, injector tubes and the price of parts are high. Good is that the drivers say it's a good ride. But they don't fix them
