I got my CDL on Tuesday. I had been waiting for my hazmat background check to go through but I got a call from work saying that I’m going down to California in Thursday. So instead of waiting and potentially leaving with no CDL (it’s not a driving job but they do need drivers for some aspects of the work) I went and got it and decided to get the HM endorsement later. Well I checked online today and my background check finally went through. So my question is, is there any point in going in to DMV if I’m still waiting on my hard copy CDL or should I just wait until I get it and then go update my endorsements? Thank you all and I’m enjoying everyone’s wisdom on the forum.
Use your best judgement on this issue. I’m allowed 90 days to add HM endorsement after completing the background. I’m sure it’s probably the same where you are. I’m reasonably sure your state will want that newly issued license to be turned in before issuing another lol
i would go to the DMV, they will add the endorsement, and send you another hard copy. you may get tied up down there in CA.
Alright I have an update just for the sake of anyone else who might have this question in the future. I went to DMV and they issued me a new license with the endorsement on it and said it didn’t matter that I already had one on the way. They said I would have to pay $26 but in the end the computer said $0, so I paid nothing. Thanks for the reply’s.
