Hey everybody, This is my first post here though i have been reading these forums for a little over a year. Ever since i was young I was always fascinated with the idea of being a trucker. I still do not know if it would be right for me, but that is not the question I would like to get answered as I believe myself and experience are the only things that could answer it. I live in Oklahoma and I'm wondering what the closest/fastest/best truck driving school would be? i dont have too much time as i know am in a situation where i will need to be putting some food on the table for a little while. I would like to train and then be put on a contract AS LONG AS its with a good company that will treat me like a human being. otherwise im fine with trainging at any school that is good and fast and will help me secure employment. one of the bigger concerns for me is that i got a DUI when i was sixteen(i am now 19) and i dont know if that alone could stop me from becoming a driver. i can understand why companies would not want to run that risk(though i havent had any other traffic violations or any sort of arrests at all since then) so i wont be suprised if the majority of companies said no to me. to sum it up i need these few questions answered, 1. is it still possible/likely that i would be able to get a job as a trucker with a dui on my record? the dui may have been "waived" or whatever the term is. i need to check into that and i will update this post as soon as i know. 2. living in Oklahoma what would be my best bet for a solid school that will either hire me to pay off the schooling or help me get employment rapidly? Once these questions are answered im sure i will have more for you knowledgeable folks.
You've got 2 problems you'll need to deal with. First you're only 19. That means that a company that hires you can only run you in the state. Second is the DUI. Just about all the companies will ask if you've had a DUI in the past 3 years and others might ask longer. It's not impossible for you to get a job but in my opinion pretty close to it.
I don't know what the school is like, but I beleive there is a school in Drumright(I think thats how u spell it). I don't know if the DUI will affect u getting yuor cdl but if it doesn't maybe u could go ahead and get it. That way u would at least have it when the time comes around u could start driving. Just a thought.
