I have an xl classic and want to remove the grey plastic cabinets that are currently in it and replace them with wood. I am wanting to find out what are those plastic cabinets anchored to? Are they just anchored to the floor or are they also anchored to the wall? The wall don't seem like they could support much weight at all they actually seem like they are pressboard with the vinyl over it. Are there crossmembers behind the interior walls? If I can just figure out how to get the shelves i build to attach to the interior wall this project will be on easy street!
If it's like the Century, they are bolted to the walls on the backside. Once you remove it you'll see what I mean. I did cabinets in mine, but ran floor to ceiling because the anchor points IMO won't hold up for long with much weight over what the plastic is/was
I havent replaced any of the shelves,.. I have a Columbia which are pretty much the same as the Coronado and Century inside. I have never been inside a Classic,.. so I honestly dont know what they are like inside. But the cabinets and shelves in the Columbia are very easily removed. Mine didnt come with a fridge, so I removed the bottom cabinet and replaced it with a medium sized freezer/fridge. Hurst
Here's a few pics of my setup. Sorry for the crappy pics, but it's kinda hard in such a cramped space for decent pics. Be aware that for some reason Freightliner doesn't particularly like straight angles. Everything had to be measured, cut then adjusted for the dumb angles
I like your fridge and microwave setup,.. I may try that myself. I use my upper bunk for storage,.. Took out the mattress and put down a rubber mat so things dont slide around (Too much) then use plastic bins from walmart and cases upon cases of bottled water, soda, food, cloths, day bag, tools, and general,.. stuff. At any time I always have at least 7 - 10 days of provisions. So putting in a cabinet up there is not really an option for me. I like your speaker setup. I'm an avid audio/video nut. After my 386 Pete,.. I got the idea for building a boom box and amp under my bunk. Then replaced the cheap factory speakers with Cerwin Vega and Kicker speakers with another amp up in the bin where my CB used to be. Using a Kenwood head unit and usually just have my cel phone plugged into it playing Pandora or Iheart radio most of the time. At night I plug in my laptop audio to it, hang my 32" LCD TV from the front upper bin and watch NetFlix or Hulu. My man cave away from home. Hurst
Originally I also used my top bunk for my storage, but I started amassing just too much stuff or "junk" as my wife likes to call it. So I decided to build the cabinets. I keep all of my audiobooks, cds, dvds, and paper books in one side and food stuffs in the other along with my mini Foreman, bullet juicer thingamajig and my toaster oven is under the bunk. Right now the underbunk is stuffed with stuff until I get my step box mounted up to take out all of the extra fluids, parts, and other essential stuff that won't fit with the tool boxes in the side box. I have two 12's in a sealed box under the bunk, 4 6x9's across the top of the cabinets, two 4.25 high speakers I mounted in the corners of the bunk along with the same in the doors. Gonna do something different shortly as I wanna go with components so I'll probably remove the 6x9's. JVC head unit with a mini rockford 4 channel pushing everything. 32 mounted on the wall that I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to design a lift system for it, just because really. Still have to build one more cabinet for my office supplies and printer. Then a small 12x12 sink with cabinet for a water tank. I know I should probably just buy a big sleeper, but there's more fun in doing it all yourself in a smaller place lol
Sweet. Thats much nicer than what I have now. I have just a single 12 in a bandpass box. Felt that wouldnt rob too much space for the other tools, and fluids for the truck and things I store under there. I use 2 pipe straps bolted to the wall mounts on the back of the TV,.. then have 2 rack bars that were meant for setting up shelving,.. but they go deep enough into the bin where it balances the TV perfectly. I kick back on the lower bunk with my feet up on a small fold away table that I lay a pillow on for comfort. The screws come out easily,.. then I wrap the TV with a towel and store it behind the net on the back of lower bunk. I have a mini-forman grill I also use. I love that thing. Does hamburger patties and bacon pretty quickly. Also makes great grilled cheese. When my wife is out with me she likes to use a small hibachi grill that she usually puts on the battery box or bed of the trailer. She gets up before I do and does pancakes and eggs,.. or ham and grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast. I love it when she comes out with me. As for my stereo setup,.. I'm still using the little 4" speaker size in the doors. I want to change them up with another cross over and keep them for mids and then put some 6x9's in the panels up above the doors. Right now I just have the two 4's up front and the two 6x9's in the back with the subwoofer underneath. Hurst
The doors don't have much depth so you're kinda stuck with the 4's unless you use a spacer. I put in baffles behind them to add to the sound. Cheap fix $10. Also helps to keep the water off them when it rains. If you still have the cabinet, stick a piece of 1x4 inside and screw a swing tv mount to it and then you can leave the tv up. That's how I used to have mine. When I had a driver for my other truck he kept getting pissed because of all the stuff I was doing inside my truck lol
We have a 98 classic. I took them out as they are kind of worthless. They were just anchored to the floor.
