I was wondering how you truckers secure freight other than using load boards. Have you ever used uShip (bidding) and any bad experiences there?

I was wondering how many of you owner operators have used this site. I did very well when I used it to transport people's cars and trucks (by actually driving them) and used to always think that if I had a truck and trailer, this site could be very beneficial. Anyone ...?

If you have your own authority, you can try to 'get your foot in the door' with potential customers in your are or the area(s) you plan to travel into, then call them when you need work (hopefully they will also call you when they need your help). Easier to do this sort of thing if you are a local/short-haul operator like I am,

Looked at U-Ship for a while and bid on a couple of potential loads, nothing worked-out; concerned with folks shipping something with no idea how it might actually need to be dealt with (such as weight, packaging, truck access, etc).

I've tried using it 3 times, 1 was successful, the other 2 deals fell through. The stars have to magically align for me to get a load because I have time constraints with my dedicated run.
