Hey guys I have a 07 freightliner columbia and it has a detroit series 60 14l. I bought this truck and just dropped this motor in it because the last motor spun a main. When you turn this truck on the turbo boost up and it sounds like a turbine engine pretty much like a airplane taking off and I know its just not the noise of the turbo I havent heard this before. Then let it sit for a sec it quiets down but can still here it. When you listen to the exhaust there is alot of air coming out. Heres the thing you let it idle for five minutes or when its warmed up it will stop and the exhaust air will slow down but when you rev it up it will start doing it again. I'm not knowledged with these egr systems. My theory is tell me if i'm wrong, when the truck is at idle the egr valve should be closed and when you rev it up it well be open. So could it be when its at idle and you wait a little bit the valve final shuts and the noise stops and when you rev it up it dont open all the way and causes the noise, then you let it idle and takes it a while to shut and the noise stop. What do you guys think the problem is. Also I have no codes or lights coming on.
I took that little cover off the end of the egr valve where you can turn that flap with flat head screw driver but it won't open with the motor off, should u be able to open and close it by hand?
Mine is exactly the same specs as yours and makes the same noises. In 100000 miles I havent had any problems and I just got used to it. Just the way the truck sounds. Its kinda embarrasing, doesnt sound like a real truck but what can you do? Isnt it something with the vgt? I would love to know how to get rid of that noise.
