My truck was being worked on and I noticed that the mechanics left the truck outside with the hood open overnight. Couldn't the engine, or parts be damaged by leaving the hood open - like if it were to rain?

I pressure wash my motor all the time. I've never had a problem.. Of course I don't do a full on blast into the electrical system..

It would have to pour down pretty hard. Consider this: you're driving in a downpour in S. Tx. and all that water is spraying up under the hood. Do you think some electrical is getting pretty wet?

The electrical in a truck is pretty much waterproof. We have the engines pressure washed when at the Beacon and in the yard to remove eye catching oil and grease and of course dirt and mud. By washing the engine when doing a regular truck wash you will find oil leaks faster while doing your PTI and when you are fueling and checking fluid levels and going over the engine for a "close look" If you wash it and it returns then you know where it starts before it "flows" to other areas nad can tell the shop where it starts at.

But to answer your question, rain will not hurt the electrics as almost all the wiring is at what used to be called "Mil Spec" or "military specs" with screw on and slide in connectors on the parts that matters the ECM. The military was the leader of these connectors and trucking applied them after it was a proven hit! So again, nope rain wont, pressure washing doesn't unless someone gets carried away and keeps hitting a connector over zealously!

    Newbie here.

Are truck washes standard routines paid by the company? How often are they normally done? I've often wondered if in the winter time that would be more common to wash off the salt to prevent rusting on and under the truck.

It depends on the company, but usually they will pay for a wash about every 2 weeks or so. Some might only wash the power unit and not the trailers and some will wash truck and trailer.

And some you have to use your window cleaner to clean off the area around the door handle and side of the door so you don't get filthy! I've even seen a few companies that expected the driver to wash a company truck. BUT L/p drivers it's a part of "owning' theta truck but it's tax deductiable!

I find it odd that a 5 year driver would be asking that question.:biggrin_2556:

Not all of us are mechanically inclined so we can kinda "overlook" it! :biggrin_2555:
