ive been talking to alot of companies thought i had one with FFE; was going to start training with them back in march; had a contract and then all lines of communication just broke down my recruitor stop calling and i couldnt get get her on the phone. and no one else could help me cause she had my file(paper work) so i stop calling after 2months. so now im thinking about going with CRST; in spite of what i read in the bad company postings. a part of me dont want to deal with CRST; but i do need the training and the license( class A) to get me going with a trucking career. i love driving im driving straight truck now (class B) ive drove a trailer in a yard once and ever since then i was hooked. CRST; training is close for me ohio cause im from new york.and they only want you to sign a 8month contract. but all that negitive sh#*t ive read. i guess my question is what can i do ?? should i deal with CRST; or not.
Go with your gut I guess. Read the positive posts too and then figure out which one seems more true. Alot of times the only people posting are the real angry ones, look anywhere at any forums and its generally a ##### fest They're probably not all bad.
If you think you can put up with whatever for eight months then do it 'cuz most companys want you for a year.
Only 8 months, huh? Yes, most of the companies I've heard about require at least a 1 year contract. You have to get your training and experience somewhere. So, if you can't find anyplace better... Gotta do, what ya' gotta do!
I don't work for them... never have... but screw crst... transport america, roehl, schneider, crete, gee'z anybody but crst. reason: crst is a team company... now if you like teaming ok... but if not??? btw... team company means your trainer is a trainy. No not always... but generally... yeah... guys with little experience sleeping in the back while you learn or else... a real vetran sleeping in the back while you learn I couldn't do it.... heck... wouldn't do it.
Hey Smitty66, If at all possible pay for your own CDL training, that way you will not have to sign and commit your self to a contract with a company. I didn't have the cash but my credit was good enough to finance my training, not the greatest idea but it did free me up to choose who I wanted to start with out of those companies who offered me a job. Believe it or not even after hearing and reading all the negative on Werner I still went with them and I was only with them a total of 8 months pulling for their Dollar General account, after 2 months of training and 6 months solo as a dedicated driver I left due to physical nature of the job, at 46 my knees and back couldn't take much more. I left Werner and was hired by Crete with a total of 8 months experience, keep in mind I have a clean DAC, no tickets or accidents and got some very good experience while delivering to Dollar General stores, but my point is to stay focused and keep positive and you do just fine out here, just be smart in conducting your business. I went from .32 cpm to .40 cpm with just 8 months total experience, and alittle over year and 2 months I am at .42 cpm. Good luck to you!
I will help with what you are looking at.............. Their are alot of options out there........Make your choice carefully do not just hop on the first phnoe call that comes thru. Just as you did mention CRST does only require 8 months however, during that time period you will be running teams. Now if you know someone else that would go with you and join so that you can team together you will have no problem. If you do not you might find someone that you think you can ride with while in school or meet during orientation.......... Shocker.........that does not mean that after teaming that you guys/girl will be OK teaming. When that does not work your dispacher will give you a list of drivers to call to find a driver........... Teaming is not for everyone..........Others it works out OK. Makin that comparison going with other companies......England, Swift,Werner,Central refrigerated, etc..........You will go solo after 4-6 weeks when you finish with your trainer and run solo but you will be in a contract for a minimum of 1year or 2. I think Covenant you have to run team for 6 months before going solo. If you find another company that will hire you before a year with less than a year exp. than that may work out for you. The entire industry looks at experience and that is what matters but that is also driven by insurance company requirments. Good luck with your search.............look all around find what matters to you. Most important...........DON'T BELIEVE RECRUITERS......... VERIFY, VERIFY, VERIFY, VERIFY HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
From what I've seen and read, you just need to worry about getting the experience under your belt first. You are kind of limited if you need help in getting your Class A. Good luck though. Personally, I think I could sign up for 8 months. but I'm a tolerant person.
thanks for your feed back. i could go and get my class A. license on my own but what i found out is the t/t companies in my area will not hire you with out any t/t experience i was told its the companies insurance companies wont carry inexperience t/t drivers.' TRUST ME ' ive done all the research into this i was told by a large t/t outfit in area (newyork) to get the experience needed go with a o.t.r outfit which will give you the training and the license. then after a year youll have the experience you need.cause just geeting my license on my own i would of done it all ready me going o.t.r to me is just a investment. thanks for your feed back
