I have a very good friend who just got his training complete at Werner...

He got a old truck...a freightliner XL to be exact. He did a load for his dispatcher, who sent directions on the "qualcomm" One of the directives was "fuel" He did so at the werner terminal near Atlanta. They red tagged the truck and trailer. His dispatcher is now holding a grudge because he fueled...dispatcher says he wasn't supposed to fuel, even though it was on the qualcomm.

that was 2 days ago...He is now still sitting in this lot, nowhere to stay, they have the truck, and are really treating him like ####. He called his dispatcher who told him "sit there". He was supposed to get a new truck there to team with someone who he was supposed to meet in a day or two.

What should he do at this point in time...because Werner is treating him like dirt is there someone he should call? he is sitting there not being paid...He needs help...

    Shawn

PS, I was going to go to Werner and team with him, but not now...

These companies are doing this on purpose because they can. This is SAD that it is happening.

Can this friend file for unemployment benefits due to lack of work?

How could they red tag a truck that passed pre-trip?
Not asking to spin the scenario wheel, what was wrong with the truck?
I'm thinking maybe he should have never accepted the truck?
I would pre-trip the #### out of any relic that was tossed at me.
Along with taking lots of pictures of every little scratch.

Woe is the the driver who is the last to turn in a relic.

The dispatcher told him to take the truck. He put the repairs needed in the qualcomm, and then left. They basically needed to get the POS to Atlanta, which they did...now he is screwed.

It had 2 bad front tires, loose mirror, body damage everywhere, engine ready to blow, and a missing rear flap. Werner did get the tires taken care of en rt. he did the pretrip and logged all visible defects on that qualcomm.

it was a female driver that turned it in...he picked it up in Lakeland FL.

He did not know he could turn a truck down being he is new and all...probably thought they would fire him. He was told just to take it a drop it off there and he would get his new one and be on the road...Now they are messing with him...

If nothing else, the bad front tires put the truck out of service. Your friend was a fool for taking the truck on the road in the first place. The "I didnt know" excuse does not work here in the real world...

He got a old truck...a freightliner XL to be exact. He did a load for his dispatcher,..................."for his dispatcher" either TELLS me or HINTS at the fact that just maybe it was sent by a "load planner" and not the dispatcher having the knowledge of same. Maybe the dispatcher sent it but NOW since the truck is in "the pokey", he MIGHT be getting pressure from his Fleet Manager because of the lack of Load delivery( ie Dispatcher is trying to cover his own butt) and blaming Driver for the failure(Buck being funneled downhill to blame the Driver is nothing new, trust me)

I would inquire WHO really sent the Dispatch.

"""who sent directions on the "qualcomm" One of the directives was "fuel" He did so at the werner terminal near Atlanta."""

Did the directions SAY specifically "fuel at terminal"? I noticed the comment "He did so". But then again in ones own defense for your friend , the ole double-edge sword appears that he MIGHT of gotten in trouble no matter WHERE he fueled.....Fuel at terminal, RED TAGGED.....Fuel at TS and they say "Why in the world didnt you fuel at terminal". "USUALLY" when you send in your LAST MT call and THEN except a load, the QC will spit out directions etc etc AND where to fuel(because you send how much fuel ya got). Did he have the load BEFORE or after he fueled? Some companies when a Bigtruck gets Red Tagged, and they are "UNDER" the load, its either reassigned to another truck OR heat is put on the SHOP to "Geter Done". REMEMBER a QC is a machine MADE BY humans so it has its failures BUT on the same token, we drivers are expected to THINK for ourselves and "Dechiper" what-is-what and make intellegent decisions. A QC shouldnt be used for the "FAULT" of the problem. Maybe he coulda picked up, ran, THEN fueled up down the line. Mind you, I am in NO way blaming your friend, but I think I would of called Dispatch and inquired "HEY, can I pick up load, then run, and THEN fuel up even tho I'll be close to the Yard"? Your friend really was ONLY trying to do whats right tho.

I would GO OVER the top F A S T, even over or to the Fleet Manager concerning this. But then again, look at the Companys' hes dealing with.

Unfortunately, though, under the fear of losing his job, he did. I would bet that if that ever happens again, it wont get moved...

We were all wondering what to do about the current situation...should he get a new dispatcher since this one is fired up at him for doing as he was told to do?

Well, how do we find a higher up to get this handled? And there was no load...it was a empty trailer...so that's another reason to understand why the dispatcher is so mad.

The directions took him to the terminal (werners), fuel, then to drop this empty trailer at where it was going,(100 mailes from terminal), then back to the terminal for the new truck.

Personally, I don't see why they are behaving like this and treating him like dirt...it was red flagged by themselves...not the DOT or anything...

    1444 Blairs Bridge Rd Lithia Springs, GA 30122 (770) 739-3600, (800) 828-7556.

This is the terminals store phone number and I called it........they transferred me to a man named Cleo which informed me that he should IMMEDIATELY call/go talk to the terminals Driver Manager Supervisor and have something done. If this fails, go to the Head of Terminal Operations and advise him of this dilemna. He lastly commented, "This will not be tolerated because we dont "put-up" with this kinda #### anytime ESPECIALLY if its his dispatcher, (as I told him) was spear heading this, our personnel do not warrant such behavoral tactics".

Sounded like he was reading it from a piece of paper prompt or something(think he was an ex-salesman or something). Anyways, good luck and he would NOT give me any phone numbers to call. Like he said, "We like to handle things in-house". Probably so the public dont hear the truth. I tell all the newbies that ask me for the truth about a company....................nothing like finding out FIRST HAND huh?

Hope I've helped. If they terminate him, look at it like this.....maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

****Sorry, if I was outta line with anything I did for ya....sorry.****
