What do students do to get washed out of their training or by coach ?

Just curious to know so I don't make the same mistakes !

 

Not shifting right, breaking laws, hitting things. Most of it is common listion to what they tell you and do what ur told to do.

 

Jack knifing the truck in reverse. And keep on spinning the wheels.

 

Don't yell at your trainer.He/she can kick you off at the next exit.Believe me I know,lol

 

First and foremost, testing positive for drugs. That kicked a lot of people out of our class. Lol. Always participate in everything. If you're trying and having problems, someone will help you. If you sit around and have problems, they're just going to sit and watch you fail. Always watch those mirrors so you don't run over anything. And just listen to everything they have to teach you and you'll do just fine

 

Listen, watch, and ask more questions than you think possible.....They're there to train you, so you don't have an accident and kill yourself or somebody else. Attitude is very important, most of the time that is what separates the drivers from the steering wheel-holders. Pay attention and like I said ask questions, even if you think they are not so smart...you're a student...you're not supposed to have all the answers yet....Even when you get out of training you'll "still" be a student...the day that you stop learning about highway safety, and common courtesy, and the ability to keep your cool in a stressful situation PLEASE stop driving a truck....because when that day comes you are a danger to everybody that you meet on the road.....

 

Most good trainers will let the rough driving slide, as long as you show you're making an effort to learn. What would get you kicked off my truck?

1) Not paying attention to your surrounding environment
2) Not paying attention to what I tell you
3) Getting into my truck thinking you know more than I do. There's a reason why you're the student and I'm the trainer

 

There are two variables: the rookie and the trainer. It's like being married and living together. Thing is, you're in your trainers house and the trainer sets the rules. In a divorce, the rookie most often will lose. Basically, it can be a clash of personalities.

Sometimes you get these rookies that are still high from the sunshine injection that the recruiter gave them. They feel they're valuable and irreplaceable and the trainer needs them.

Some times a trainer only knows one way to do things and that's the way he was taught. There's always more than one way. If your student is trying his best, but is still struggling, then the teacher is failing. Being an effective trainer is probably the most challenging job a driver could have. Why so? Because most people NEVER learn to be good listeners. They THINK they're good listeners but they're not. If you have a student that can listen in your truck, everything clicks and goes on smoother than Mrs Buttersworth. So you have to get someone who isn't used to listening to listen to everything you say. Tough job.

So, apply yourself to listening, if you are a student. I have yet to see a good listener get sent home. i have yet to hear a trainer say, "This student isnt going to make it. He listens to me."

I make it a point to remember names. On a crane move, there might be 18 to 20 trucks. On a blade run, there will be 3 trucks in my crew and 6 pilot cars. I will remember all the pilot cars names, all the drivers names, and all the waitresses names. In order to do it, I have to listen to them.

 

My last student was wondering around a petting zoo one day and,,,,, well the restraining order was not lifted.
