wondering if any of you veterans can tell me just what you think of USX, what are some pros and cons compared to other companies you've been with, if any? any info you have is greatly appreciated
Been with 4 trucking companies in my trucking career, and with USX for nearly 6yrs of the total 13yrs driving, Local was crappy pulling phenumatics/liqiud tanks and the best thing they had going was the home every night. The other 2 companies were good got home every weekend, decent equipment and they were small only 1 dispatcher working from his house, so you got to know everyone who drove for them. But I always found myself back OTR and USX is who I came to... PROS. USX compared to previous trucking co. Ive worked for. 1-Better equipment (even as a company driver) 2- EZ pass, Pre Pass. ( didnt have these, so it was going into scales ALOT ) 3- Large Fuel Network ( compared to smaller selection with other companies, and calling 2am in the morning to the boss because no money was in the fuel card LOL) 4- Breakdown issues resolved quicker. 5- More Paycheck options 6- Because USX are a very big co, they have many terminals and drop yrds around so you have a place to do laundry, shower, order chinese or pizza, a place to relax out of the truck. will list more if I can think of it, just woke up in Laredo, TX CONS 1- Sometimes hard to get ahold of a dispatcher to get an issue taken care of. 2- In the last 5 yrs I have had 5 different dispatchers ( all of my previous FM`s have gotten promotions so you have to start from scratch with new FM) 3- Chasing Empty Trailers can be fun 4- Not a great fan of the weekend FM, or PLNRs, good luck on reaching any of them. Well thats it for now, If I think of anything else Ill let you know
Overall Im happy here at USX, havent had any major problems with them, they gave me the op to own my own truck and get interested in the business side of trucking, and they guys i have know while here, I got on great with them.
thankyou charlie for being the only one to take time out of your day to share some helpful information bro, I really appreciate it and will take into consideration, good luck to you, be careful in Laredo man, rough town, trust me I know lol, take care
Can't really add anything to what Charlie said other than those CONS are about the same with any major company.
We also have only one terminal in the West, Colton CA. Equipment is top notch and I feel most of the office personnel really do care about the drivers. (At least for the drivers who treat them with respect)
I worked for them long time ago. Actually was working for Hall Systems out of Birmingham,AL (old timers will remember them) which was a great company to drive for. Then USX came in and bought them out. USX was a pretty decent company to work for if you hooked up with a good dispatcher. Which I was lucky enough to. Then one day while I was unloading @ LOWES in Montgomery,AL my dispatcher called me and said they had a dedicated run out of city where I lived at the time.(Tallahassee,FL) Asked me if I was interested. I said Hell Yeah. That my friends was a gravy run too, airfreight for Airborne Express. Tallahassee-Albany,GA-Atlanta then back to Albany then Tallahassee. Did that for awhile then LandAir came in and took account over which I took over with LandAir. Then the fun stopped LandAir cut the pay because I'm sure they lowballed on the rate. Paycheck was always screwed up. Hell they still owe me money and that was like 10 or so yrs ago. Finally got fed up with LandAir so went back OTR with USX. WOW......I've rambled enough on that one, sorry off topic for a bit but it finally circled back around to USX.
